Had to put my old ferret down yesterday, had cancer in one eye, had it removed by the vet but came back.I've had ferrets for 40 years but none as good as Grim,an ugly, badly bred ferret I got at a country show.He was loved by the family, all my dogs and ferrets.Show him a blackberry patch, would go in flush rabbits for the dogs, come straight out and back in his box, would retrieve baby rabbits live to hand out of warrens, kill big bucks that refused to bolt and drag them out.He never bit and loved a pat.As an albino I think he developed skin cancer on his eyelid. He was 9 1/2 when he died holding his last bunny.I know he was only a ferret but I considered him a mate.

You always miss the good ones, never had one that would bring young ones out myself. But he had a really good life and well look after by the sounds of it and you will never stop talking about the ferret you called Grim. ATB.

Its true,an old bloke who taught me to ferret as a kid also had one who would bring out young. My oldest lurcher bitch also shows kindness by putting small babies down and letting them escape(not so good when doing pest control though)Both ot these animals killed young rabbits when they started out.My opinion is ferrets get better and better with age/experience though not as fast working.

Retrieve baby rabbits live to hand :whistling: I don't think so

A good ferret is truely worth its weight in GOLD ,they are prized and return any effort and time ten fold .Ten years is a good working life for a ferret .He will ALWAYS live on in youre mind ,as you recall the great days sport you enjoyed together .
