Reloading 308

Recommended Posts

Earlier on I started cleaning and preparing 50 .308 cases for reloading. Hour in the tumbler, full length resize and decap (as my mate gave me some and I wasn't sure which were his and which were mine), another hour in the tumbler to remove the lube, trim case length, chamfer neck, brush inside neck, clean primer pocket, insert primers with the hand primer and put them in a box ready for bullets and powder tomorrow.

Spot the error.

looks like a .223 in the mix?

It's a 243 and I don't even shoot that cal. I think I must have picked it up it up at the range by mistake. Explains how i could prime it as it's basically a necked down 308, but f**k knows how I decapped it. :hmm:

Just goes to show how easy it is to make mistakes.........I assumed .223 or Hornet because I know you have them, and I still got it fecking wrong lol

I'd have noticed either of those as they wouldn't have fitted in the hand primer. Going to have a hell of a job ramming a 30 cal bullet in it tomorrow. :laugh:

Try this one...

A certain gent at my rifle club has both .308 and .243...etc., etc .,he was really struggling with the target which none of us could understand, until we found he was actually launching .243 through his .308! :icon_eek:

We were shocked, I never even considered that would be possible, but it was, and remarkably the barrel still shoots very well!

Just an aside;

I use an RCBS 22.5 Degree taper reamer to deburr the inside edge of the neck, has to be done lightly and manually but

the bullets seat very sweetly, even flat base, and it also gives the crimper a bit of leeway to do it's stuff.

highly recommended.
