Classic Hunting And Best Hunting Weight For .177 Cal`

Recommended Posts

Took the Classic Feinwerkbau Sport 124 out again this evening.

Here`s the basic set up before draping a camo net over and sitting behind this screen in full gillie camo.

I took 7 wood pigeons and could not retrieve one

The reason being each one of them flew a good 50yds before folding up,--- "on the other side of the railway tracks" -- all fenced off, both sides. :censored:

The reason I mention the weight of a hunting .177 pellet is exactly this,- they flew 50 yds and folded using light weight pellets ( 7.87 g, 812 ft/sec) = 11.53 ft/lbs

Thoughts please lads ? :hmm:

I've been using h&n barracuda hunter extreme's mark .177 9.57gr

the 95 loves them, they group really well and there a snug fit in the barrel and put out the best ft lb!

because there a much denser lead if you connect the birds just drop :icon_eek:

took a woody the other week with a head shot.. what a mess!

rez and cc are both fans of the h&n hunters

Hmmmm :hmm:

I`ve noticed a difference when using AA Fields 8.4 g through the 100 kt compared to the lighter pellets.

Headshots in any weight = dead.

Heart/lung with the Fields = dead instantly.

Heart/lung with the light weight = dead after a very short flight, 50 yds tops.

Very accurate shooting but flew 40 yds and folded off the lightweights .

Yes I know mate , Rabbits are not a problem, but fly and fold is.

Accuracy is not a problem as the photo shows.

The avatar picture, decoying, was the light weights but on open stubble fields.

I don't know, maybe move back onto Fields again for Wood Pigeon. The Fields give up a lot of energy on impact.

Just luck of the draw I think mark. You could hit the boiler room all day long, and some will hit the wing and bugger off 50 yards. Others will drop like stones.

The natural reaction I guess. Surprising really, as I could get shot in the chest with a 303 say, and I bet you 20 coins, I do not manage 5 yards let along 50.

As v'man says, head shots tend to drop anything on the spot.

Nice spot that though.
