Catching Up

Recommended Posts

Most years I manage to get the fallow cull over by the end of Feb unfortunately that's not happened this year and I'm well behind , the large herds just didn't put in a show till the middle of Jan , be it down to plentiful food in the woods or weather it just didn't happen this year .needing to catch up a pal came over and we managed to knock down these five this morning no camera or phone the pictures are just before they get put away ..

Weighed in at 52 55 55 62 and 57lb

It's good to see someone getting into them, it's been a slow yr this yr on roe for me,

Just finished cleaning two more this evening , one was a buck fawn that I had to take because it was struggling to walk , on opening it up it has boney defect to its rib cage , I'll get some pics up tomorrow..

Here's the pics of the buck fawn , showed it to a vet pal of mine she thinks it's been hit , the ribs have knitted together and you can see were the lungs have fused to the rib cage ..post-81636-0-96716000-1489688689_thumb.jpg

I was lined up to take a doe but this fella seemed more deserving of the round ..

At the time of the shot it was stood next to another buck fawn , no difference in size or condition and by the way it was walking I was expecting to see a badly damaged front leg it wasn't till I gralloched it I found the reason for it ..

That roe looks in top nick Darren ..

it was in good nick but it was the worst one there, there was a shitty buck ran across the field, and jumped straight in to the wood, or I would have culled it, will get him later on, next month,

certainly did well to survive that, must have been quite some time ago for the bones to heal so fully. i saw a picture of a deer shot with an arrow, and the ribs had fused around the arrow itself, i will try to find it

Caught up a little more , doe and female calf at last light , I could see a small group feeding just in the wood line and was just thinking ten minutes will be about it when a couple of fawns and a doe came out , the doe was closest to the wood with the fawns forty yards nearer to me .On the bipod the doe dropped instantly, the fawns ran back towards her then seemed to spook as the doe kicked out and stopped , just enough time to broad side the female fawn .Good reaction to the shot but she took of heading straight into the wood ..confident after seeing the strike I gave it ten minutes while I got the truck ( the quad is out of commission with a knackered rear axle ) then put the dog on a line , forty yards in it was dead but buried in bracken ..pleased no end with the dog ..post-81636-0-30147900-1489783847_thumb.jpg
