Was hoping to do some snipe this year with my bitch . The land I'm on is normally really good for them but we couldn't fit every thing in .

Tiercel, can't give you a "like" now you've gone to the dark side, lol, so you'll have to make do with a thumbs up

HPR, I have a bit of a soft spot for the solid colours, so your bitch caught my eye from the off.

Often toyed with the idea of a Drahthaar after seeing a tv program some years ago about a German Forestry Ranger. He had a cracking strong dog. The two of them were working on a Capercaillie conservation program. The dog was allowed to cast around the clearings, and when the dog came to point on a Capercaillie nest the Ranger logged it's location. Then he proceeded to take a bar of coal tar soap from his bag and walk around the nest site cutting slivers of soap and letting them fall to the floor, the idea being that the smell of the soap masked any/what little scent the bird may have given off, and hopefully preventing predation. Don't know if this was common practice or just something this chap did, but interesting none the less.

Edited to add that if my memory serves me right, the dog was worked with a bell on it's collar.
