Couple In The Bag

Recommended Posts

Wasn't sure what section to stick this but seeing as the black fella is in it all here is as good as any.

Set 4 snares last night in a old bramble patch. The rabbits are lamp shy and they come off the railway so can't ferret them. So a nice spot to snare.

I went back at midnight to have a nose but no joy so back first thing and success.

I saw it from a distance so popped the dog in a sit and left him back a bit all good for him. He is a bit puzzled how I suddenly have the knack of plucking rabbits out of the brambles

so that done off for a ferret. During the summer as I walked the river I had spotted a rabbit where I didnt think they were. So called yesterday to sort the permission and all good. Started walking the hedge and I could tell there was scent about then the dog spun on his heels and stared at a hole deep in the hedge. It was a double fenced black thorn job with some rusty wire in it for good measure. I had a hell of a job to find a hole to lift the dog with out poking his eyes out and I pulled a muscle in me ass trying to get in lol.

So hands a knees crawling about but we love it

I could see a few holes on the out side the far side. But couldn't get through so back the way I came then found a hole about a hundred yards down too get through. Got the nets down then back round and in. Of course I new the rabbit was going out into the field so no good having the dog stuck in the hedge

so struggled him back out then all the way round and put him in position. I thought sod this and jumped back in to saving going around. I of course made a right noise and the dog thought he was missing out so by the time I got in he was back in the hedge again :( But did it all again and got him to wait where he was needed this time.

popped the ferret in and heard the bells field side then she went back in. Next thing the rabbit tried to bolt by the dog and saw him and went back in then flew out by me and turned back in. Then went for third time lucky and shot out of a bolt hole. But not so lucky :)

saying that his on sick AGAIN lol. We nipped out sunday night just one run and one rabbit. Perfect little run it was. Quite a big field and a the rabbit was right in the distance squatting. I new it would come my way so sent the dog off. He went up the beam half speed keeping his eyes open. But went to one side of the rabbit. Then he stopped swung around and just stood there checking the beam out. I gave a little whistle and he started edging back my way and then he spotted it. Rabbit took off full tilt down the slope towards me and the dog the same. The old bunny put in a bloody sharp turn and so did the dog and he snapped it up and full whack. Trouble is his done in his front leg or shoulder and hobbling about. But its all part and parcel with this fella. Just a normal day in the office. Week off and he hopefully be ready to go again
