Air Rifle Cleaning

Recently got my Benjamin Maximus in .22 . It's probably 30 in my collection but my first PCP so I was curious what's the best way to clean the barrel ? Some say a pull through while others say a one piece fiberglass rod. Also is it OK to use Hoppes #9 solvent in my air rifles in general ?

Hoppes is quite aggressive and might cause issues with the 'O' ring in the breech assuming there is a seal there. Quite a few guys in the UK use Napier Power Airgun oil which is more gentle on seals.

 

Problem with a cleaning rod is that you have to go in from the muzzle on a PCP which pushes any dirt / particles into the breech / mag area AND could easily damage the seal. Pull through with soft cloth patches or cleaning pellets is the way to go.

Only ever used cleaning pellets in my PCP.

Dont bother, its an air rifle not a .25-06

Clean the barrel of a brand new gun, find your chosen pellet between cleans and there on, leave it be.

 

Should you change to another brand of pellet,- clean the barrel and leave alone again.

 

Should a loss of accuracy occur,- clean the barrel.
