Furrosious ferreter 499
When i got my ferret, she was being fed chicks is this a suitable food or should i mix up her diet, with rabbit, dry food, mice, rats from reptile breeder, If anyone could recommend a food seller that posts that would be great. Ive heard of one called "honey brook" anyone use these? Any good? Cheers FF Quote Link to post
terryd 8,026
I did read some where probably on here there's not much goodness in chicks alone Quote Link to post
Furrosious ferreter 499
I seem to remember from when i had snakes, that birds dont have as much calcium in as rats... Ive been feeding them chicks since ive had them and they look healthy and active. FF Quote Link to post
The one 8,395
Fluff in a shell and even that fluff can irate the mucus in a ferrets throat , that chicks never had time to build muscle bone etc far better a balanced diet meat and fresh water Quote Link to post

garbs 90
I would have to agree with the above.not sure how it is in the Uk but our chickens in australia are pumped full of hormones and if I'm not keen to eat them {unless free range} than i won't be giving it to my dogs or ferrets.i feed mine rabbits when i have them but a good quality mince and some specialty dry food works a treat for my clan. stealthy1 3,964
If you don't have access to a regular supply of meat to feed, then put your ferrets on a dry food. Quote Link to post
Guest vin
not enough in chicks to maintain healthy lifespan.. even the falconry chaps have to add extra vitamins and minerals to the chicks to make them of any use..they use that SA37 stuff a lot. get some rabbit or failing that..chicken wings from supermarket and watch them grow stronger and healthier..if you can't get a decent raw/whole prey diet into them..substitute it with a good quality dry food in between. TOMO 24,843
As above ,,, I think they would be better on cat food than day old chicks,,,there the last thing I would choose... Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
Pets at home usually do their own brand ferret food at 2 bags for 11 quid. I tend to keep mine on this through the summer to keep the flies down then feed a bit of rabbit overnight every few days. Through the winter they are usually on 100% rabbit with the odd pigeon, pheasant, chicken, duck or partridge carcass chucked in for good measure as and when I get them. If you really want to feed raw but don't have dead stuff in the freezer, either get a permission and use the air rifle through the summer or again, pets at home do bags of frozen minced raw food pellets for about the price of a tin of air rifle pellets!
