22 Hornet

Recommended Posts

Haha nice one. Although I don't use a .22 Hornet I was thinking of getting one for the wife but she wants the .17 hornet or .17 remington. I personally use a .22-250 and absolutely love it.

I definitely consider the .17 Hornet Dan as an alternative. A little less energy than the .22 version, but good off the shelf ammo and flatter shooting ballistics (from memory the same as the .223).

Shed rather something flat. She liked the hmr I had but I found it lacking to be honest so kept the .22lr and sold the hmr. Maybe she is better off with the .17 as you say they are preety flat.

Unless you have deep pockets and/or a very specialist use I'd steer clear of these!

Yeah I've heard a few horror stories. I really don't want to reloed for a .17 so the remmingtom is probably out of the question. The .17 hornet I understand has good factory ammo as mentioned above so probably the calibre for the wife

I have very little personal experience of the 17g Hornet, but the 20g V-Max flies very similar to the .223 55g V-Max, so that's not bad.

As for any gun barrel liking any ammo, then that's with the Gods. It's still a new round and there isn't much choice of ammo, but hopefully something works for you.

The 527 magazine use to have a plastic filler, it being a generic magazine.

The plastic could be removed and thinned thus allowing a slightly longer cartridge to be loaded.

U.

I use a shot sled to single load rounds longer than factory COL, the 527 magazine is crap to be honest, mine used to jam a lot.

Care has to be used loading rimmed cartridges in a stacked magazine.

Also a slight wrong bend to one or the two lips will upset feeding.

Also being a Mauser the bolt claw has to pick the cartridge rim from the get go. If the rim is in front of the claw extractor there will be issues.

Absolutely, super fast calibre. They can be easily shot out with hot loads, you really must reload for this calibre.Factory ammunition can cost £40 a box. The best .17 calibre out though "well in my opinion". Point and shoot,I wouldn't be without mine.

Sorry Walshie lol. I like the idea of a Hornet but why not a .17 hornet, flatter shooting than a .22 Hornet and probably slightly lighter in the shoulder and the pocket for ammo
