Cruciate Ligament

One of my dogs have done some damage to its cruciate ligament we think. X ray on Tuesday. Anyone got any reassuring tales of there dogs doing there's and making ful recovery?

My old bitch had cruciate damage to what extent unsure as vet advised strict rest. Only walked to empty herself for 6weeks , then further 4 week really short walk I think, then built up like that. She was fine.

If it's snapped the dogs leg (knee joint) will look like it's popping in and out.

Couple of weeks ago he came out one morning lame. Gave him rest and he was putting weight on it in a couple of days. Walking normal after a week. Week he was walking by my aid in a field and all of a sudden let out a huge cry and holding the leg up. Hasn't put weight on it since. Been to vet and they are going to X-ray it and find out but the think it's the cruciate. Fingers crossed

My girl done hers abou 6 years back now, she was rested for nearly 3 months with no exercise other than in the garden for toilet duties, another 4 months of minimal excercise, slowly building it up, now she is right as rain, unless she really over does it then she can be lame the next day, otherwise you wouldn't know she couldn't walk over a month !

I keep a few rimadyl handy now just in case, but can't even remember last time she needed one.

norm if they have a OP , they dont run proper again, its like you say max it depends on our severer in injury. i had lurcher bitch that had the op, at 4 year old but she never ran again, hope the dog makes it to full recovery .

ive known a few not come back from it. known one guy spend over 1500 on rehabilitation and stuff and its first time off the lead ping it again. its a very tough injury for working dogs to come back from let alone pets

IF,..it is a full on, genuine Cruciate Ligament tear/bust,...then the future's not bright...

my dog done his at the start of the season hes f****d now poor dog was showing good promise i ran him about 5 weeks ago after being laid up for months he killed 2 hares and 5 rabbits but by the end of the night he couldent run so hes just a house dog now he will lift the leg even after a small walk

Wait for the results of the X-ray or CT scan, to see excact problem and the extent of the injury , no good second guessing , it will be a expensive treatment if it is a ligament detached or torn, once you know then it will be make your mind up time,ATB

I am afraid I will have to say it as it is. If it is a cruciate ligament gone then your dog will now need to be rehomed as a pet or PTS.

 

I have had two one whippet and another a greyhound both cost a fortune in vet bills neither worked out, don't let the robbing ba$tard vets try and tell you they may have a chance. Take it from me cut your losses.

In the worst scenario, an operation by a top (as in specialist at vet hospital) vet will give a very good chance of recovery for a long life as a pet. I hope you have insurance if this is needed though. For lesser injuries the outlook is brighter. All the best today, I hope you have good news.

got a dog that damaged cruciate around 10 months old, couldn't put any wait on it at all for a good while, after what seemed like an age of rest and lead walking only, started to get back to strength, once started running again would b lame but for a lot shorter periods of time then eventually was coming back fine. when actually running doesn't seem to give any bother at all no effect on speed ect, always stands with never full foot on the floor. dog nearly 9 now.
