The thing is Jim, I don't know what lies beneath the patina of wear. But it has some lovely rich dark tones of colours in the grain so, anything you can do to enhance these is really welcome. You be the judge as you're the man who will sand away all that surface finish and wear marks and see what lies really underneath it all.

I dont like the dye ,not at all so last night was spent removing it and i got her sanded back right back

 

im smoothing her out now with 800 wet and dry and she has had a few baths lol

 

the grain is starting to pop now so im happy with that to .

 

Im off work to day so im on smoothing duty s to day lol

sean i got the wall nut stain that was put on the raider mate

 

and loads of 800 wet and dry

 

She is a lot smoother now than before dose not mater that its just a smk stock it still needs to be treated with respect

Looking at that stock now I would not be putting any dye on it; just smooth it out no more water- then oil it with tung oil or Danish it doesn't need any colour added to it.

The old action now as i say,d before i stripped this last year and got rid of the rust

 

and iv spray,d it black

Well iv been smoothing out the stock all day and when i thought it was done i did it all again lol

 

iv put two coats of WALL NUT STAIN on her now and im well happy now the way she is going

 

i put a bit of water in the stain (water based any way ) and apply,d a thin layer with both coats now she will be left to dry over night then a light sand down with the wire wool and another coat apply,d

 

i love the way this is going now and all the grain is on show

That`s starting to look very nice indeed mate

 

 

Tell you what though, i`ve never, ever, seen a stock with a knot in it before , unless i`ve led a sheltered life .
