Guest Lord B Posted December 18, 2007 Report Share Posted December 18, 2007 interesting commenting on someone elses choice of firearms. why would you feel the need to tell some one what type of gun they could use?just asking because behavior like that would be very poorly received here.the reasons you could request some one not bring a firearm would be limited to legality and safety. anyway the most common are either pump/slide actions or semi auto's here. i own other actions but just can't find the alure in them. might be a cultural thing? As Wag says, it is partly a cultural thing. On a few of the "really" posh shoots in the UK they won't even let you shoot an O/U. But thats very rare. As for semi auto and pumps, traditionally they are seen as unsporting, having a third (or in the case of FAC rated guns 4 or 5 or more) shot, there is also the issue of safety. Although there are a few devises to provide reasurance of safety, such as snap caps with pertruding tags etc, it is not possible to carry a S/A or P/A in a way that shows others that the gun is made safe - having the action locked back is not adequate as one small slip could result in the action shooting forward and a round being discharged. With an O/U or S/S, even if the breech is loaded, ie cartridges are in place, with the gun carried broken over the crook of the arm, it is shown as being "safe" and in the main requires a concerted affort to close the action and dischare a shot. v-max 2 Posted December 18, 2007 Report Share Posted December 18, 2007 Hello many facts have been stated here as choice of gun for wildfowling & im on a S/A too for geese etc as stated by wag.The fact is a gun is safe to a point as it can have a fault as its man made but 100% muzzel awareness at all times as its the handler thats dangours.All the S/A i have seen only lock back on an empty gun or 1 to be loaded thus safe but i have an old white sock to put in to show its safe to all around me if needed.
