Opposite Angle !!

Recommended Posts

Got up to this morning to get out and it was chucking down and blowing a gale , so went back to bed ...by eleven it had come over bright , still a fair breeze but I fancied the deer may well be out in a sheltered place catching some sun ..

After a quick recce there were a few out , mainly in a couple of fields I can't shoot ( horse fields ) laying up behind a thick hedge out of the wind . Setting of to check out a couple more likely spots I glassed up the bank were I shot the doe yesterday , were she was right at the bottom of the bank halfway up were a small group laying down ..no chance of using yesterday tactics I would have had to get right out in the field which to get a clear line .The only chance was to go in a huge circle , cross a track and into a ditch to come out below them . This was a twenty minute walk before we got into a stalking position, but as they seemed settled I'd have a go ..twenty five minutes later I was using a derelict barn to cover my progress across the track and into the ditch at the bottom of the field , thirty yards up the ditch I used a track created by the deer to ease my self out of the ditch, up the bank and into some old bracken to belly crawl ( not easy having a huge belly) through to reveal twenty or so deer bunched up all looking in my direction , they knew something was amiss but in the time between them knowing and them doing something I put the ir on the nearest one that was clear , at the best angle and squeezed of a round ...this caused the whole lot to bolt in every direction but I had eyes on the one that took the full force of the 128gr ..he arched started up hill but seemed drawn downwards and finished by somersaulting to a standstill on his side ..the others regrouped , bunched tight without any offering a sensible shot in the wind they eventually bolted away ...

I watched the buck , he never moved , I took the dog to the strike via a ten minute walk to come down above the deer , let her find the blood line and then watched her close in on the deer ..very simple find but good to watch ..

The line of trees to the right are were the deer where yesterday , albeit further up , the bank on the left is where they were today , on the very top of the bank there is a highseat that you have to get in very early to have a chance ...

The buck tipped the scales at 109lb ..
