Thought I would ask you guys in here what's the best feed to put out for goldfinches and other native birds Looked out the window this morning and seen around 10/15 goldfinch in my garden and wanting to keep them coming bk as over the years there as only been 3/4 dropped in. There is also bluetit black eyed wagtails get the odd pair of yellow wagtails call in

Sun flower hearts or Niger seed.

white sunflower hearts far better than niger i have over 80 coming to the garden

Watched them for around 20 minutes darting around the garden was nice to see. Would they nest in nest boxes or do they prefer the bushes. As I am wanting to put some sort of bush along one of the fences as it backs on to playing field and you can see straight into my garden so wanting some privercy from the field as well as cater for the birds to nest in and keep them coming in the garden

they wont nest in nest boxes prefer tall trees on the tips of branches

we put niger out and regularly get 20+ goldies on and around the 2 niger  feeders the normal mixed seed gets the rest  TAZ what sort of money you paying for your sunflower ?

Niger is best, once they know its there, but be careful not to give ya cage birds to much, can be addictive.

must depend where you are i have one feeder with hearts and one with niger goldies empty hearts  every 2 days niger been in there for over 2 months hardly touched so hearts seem to be the best down here ill take a pic of them tomo must be 80 feeding on them

a couple from earlier, the only problem i have found with hearts is they attract squirrels

also the smell when ya have to clean up the spillage smells like rotten eggs

the rspb have a survey going at moment on the bbia site hearts is 58% niger is only 14% at the moment just looked and thats the whole of england so its not just here
