Unforgiven is my personal favourite.

My Dads favourite that is, westerns are like songs I've always said, its hard picking "one" favourite.

High Plains Drifter for me

The Searchers has to be the benchmark; it has every ingredient including great, stylised dialogue and characters.

The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven are up there too. In fact I spent New Year's Eve under a blanket on the sofa beside a blazing fire watching "Josey Wales" ,again.

Best Spaghetti; High Plains Drifter -it works on a more ethereal level than the other Spaghettis.

For weirdness, daring subject matter and set-piece imagery Burt Lancaster's "The Unforgiven " is worth a look. What other Western depicts Kiowas lancing a grand piano to death?

My other favourites are the uncut (nearly every version available today has been castrated in the cutting-room) version of Ulzana's Raid and Duel at Diablo for its interesting cast and entwined sub plots.

Dances with Wolves is good too but Costner is so annoying in it.

The Outlaw josie Wales every time for me.

Closely followed by Pale Rider. Always gives me a chill when she is reading the Bible passage about the four horsemen and Clint appears on his white horse.

Unforgiven is awesome.

All the spaghetti westerns...

Open range and the 3:10 to Yuma for more modern ones.

Has anybody seen "my name is nobody"?

I think all things considered its probably my favourite, Eli Wallach makes it for me........."if your gonna shoot, shoot, don't talk" I like all the classics, the searchers, true grit, the one where John Wayne has the big collie lurcher thing is good............Little big man is good imo, unusual genre maybe, but a good film.
