Our Duck drive is centred around a small reservoir in the middle of some moore-land. The reservoir is about an acre in size, and about 6' deep. A very well used foot path goes past the reservoir, used by walkers and their dogs. The ducks have got used to this type of disturbance, so much so that the beaters cannot get the ducks up. We have tried various fireworks, waiving bags, banging sticks, shooting the shot guns in the air or at the ducks. When the dogs are sent in the ducks swim to the other side of the reservoir or swim around the dogs. Has anyone got any suggestions? Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Has anyone got any suggestions? youve got a hard one here ,......the hickers and their dogs have made your ducks tame ,use unsporting methods to get em to fly could land you in the smelly stuff , an acre pond is too big to send the dogs in , if you get them to fly at the sight of humans you could loose them when the next bunch of walkers appear best bet is ,.....shoot it at night as the very last shoot , hopefully your attracting wildbirds and these may just get your ducks on the wing failing that ,.....turn me loose on em Quote Link to post Share on other sites

dogs-n-natives 1,181 Posted April 22, 2008 Report Share Posted April 22, 2008 You could try luring them out with food, maybe bread. The best thing to do is as crack man said. Im guessing you are feeding them barley or wheat. Try to feed the ducks out of the lake. eg- to a bit of nearby cover, or up a feeder stream, but somwhere that they wont be able to see the guns, as they get positioned between them and the lake. Its better done as a plan from when you first release the duck, as you just gradually move the feed site further away from the lake until their feeding where you want them. But it sounds like its worth a go as your otherwise stumped. If they are wild duck, then this method probably wont work. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
