Recommended Posts

Does anybody else think pheasant are just too easy to poach? Much easier to fill a bag with pheasant the rabbits or hares lol but them fooking feathers, get everywhere. That's part reason I don't touch em, they stupid things and suicidal at best of times lol

Yep the skill and woodcraft involved was avoiding capture when it came on top.Carnt understand anybody poaching them now days not worth the hassel and it is a mans lively hood you are affecting.

speaking from both sides of the law having been a gamekeeper whos estate prosecuted for poaching and having been prosecuted for poaching.....THL is NOT the place to get sound advice about this topic

Wild??? Pheasants??? Deer parks? Etc.   Big difference between poaching some bunnys etc and a lot of other stuff, some poaching does basically involve robbing someones stock, taking their assets et

Hi,

I am a Design student at Loughborough University and I am designing a product that will be used to give landowners and Gamekeepers in the UK more security against poachers. I just have a couple of questions that I would like to ask that will help me significantly with the research. It would be great to get some feedback from you! Thanks

-How does poaching occur on your land?

-What do you find to be the best defense against Poachers?

You can jam your product up your keister and swivel on it, feckin classroom theorists i've shit em

Always good to see someone come back with an educated reply. It always shows the hunting fraternity in such good light. . . . .

Eloquence and Panache at all times young grasshopper

I agree the initial question is a bit naive. If you are in the process of designing something, you'd need to know those answers before you could start.....BUT....

Say for instance one of us won the lottery and bought a house with a good bit of land, would you still think it was ok for people to roam your estate while you're in bed and shoot/kill stuff on it? The technicality of who owns a wild animal is one thing, but to have people clumping round your land uninvited is another.

Where do you draw the line? Would it be ok to come in my house uninvited and raid the fridge? I don't see a difference.

I wish them luck coming onto my land with two Alsatians who won't take no shit lol

So are you saying it's ok to go on other people's land but it's not ok for them to come on yours?

No not atall I'm just saying my two boys don't like strangers but people are welcome to try

:hmm:To the original poster,..."It was difficult , if not impossable, to stop the activities of a freelancer intent upon taking a quantity of game".....Back in the day,....a team could strike, estate after estate,...there was no ryme or reason or any warning that 'this would be , the night'...

Their success (and longevity) was usualy due to the freedom of being able to move, in and out of a place, in a quiet and professional manner...Dreamers who boast how they enjoy the thrill of outwitting the Keeper are talking pure nonsense,..as are those who relish in some sort of macho confrontation...

Facts are, once they are onto you,...the game is up,...the job is fecked,..you are halfway to being captured.

So,...now that the price of pheasants is at an all time low,..it does not make any sence in killing a vanload of longtails...

That being the case,...it is hardly worth the effort and taking such a risk,...and of putting a man's livelyhood in jepordy....

However,..it is a trueism that as long as we have game to take,..some fecker will be out there, taking it....

Funny enough talking to a bloke who helps run for a small syndatcyt shoot he was saying shoot days pheasants where about 22 pound a bird now they have gone to 40 pound per bird this year how do you mean about prices phil

Never really have, but they worth pennies now, it's the guy taking the shots at them that pays daft money for em lol

True but Phil Lloyd talks about what I presumed to be poaching for profit back years ago so must of been worth it to do it

      Hi!
I am looking to collect some game feathers from local shoots (Oxfordshire) for crafting purposes.
I know eBay and other sites sell them but not in the quantity I need.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I am willing to go and pick them up.
      Many Thanks!

I found. Two dead poults near two different drinkers.  There was a little bit of blood on a feeder near on of them. Both show no signs of be predated upon  no sign of disease. No discharge nothing the waters where cleaned two days ago but these are the first dead birds I have found in the pen. Usually I'd take them to the vet to get checked but the boss doesn't wanna do that  so are there any other signs that could point to a disease ect ??

      Hello

My name is Paul, i am 20 years old and i am from Grimsby in Lincolnshire.

I have recently had an interview for a Gamekeeping Apprenticeship at Bishop Burton college in Yorkshire and I have been offered a place so long as i can find employment but being in the north east Lincolnshire area Gamekeepers seem to be few and far between, i have contacted the major local estate (brocklesby estate which is owned by the Earl of Yarborough) and some smaller estates ran by farmers and the only replies i seem to be getting are "we aren't looking to employ anyone else" which is fair enough but also rather disappointing but hey, what can you do.

I am posting here to see if there are any people out there that may know someone that could take me on or actually take me on themselves in or around the Grimsby area?(30 mile radius)

      I have experience in:

      - organised shoots as I was a beater at my local shoot (no gamekeeper, it is ran by volunteers)

      - pest control as I often shoot pigeons and rabbits for the local farmer.

      - Handling rifles and shotguns

I can drive so transport is no problem. I am looking to work within a 25-30 mile radius of Grimsby.

The employer has a possibility of gaining a £1500 grant if they take me on which is provided by the college (the government have the final say however as it goes through them + Terms and conditions apply)

I am willing to do trial runs

I can do voluntary work to gain experience.

If there is anyone out there that will be able to help me it would be more than appreciated.

If anyone has any offers or information then please contact me via my email - Pldiplock@gmail.com

This is one of the latest films i did for angus moorland group. We tried to show in the film the education behind gamekeeping and the young people that want to become gamekeepers and what drives them. Let me know what you think. Very excited to be making more of these throughout the year.
