Blackbriar 8,568
I want to get rid of my wife, Ivy, and......not really ! When we moved here I had to clear the eaves and gutters, and I've pulled it back off the walls, but my fence is still covered on all sides with ivy. It's grown across next door and covers the nearest tree and lamp-post, and is starting to cover the pavement outside. The wife is sick and tired of it, but I don't want to just pull at it and damage the fence underneath. Is there something I can spray on it or apply to it, to kill it off to make removing it easier ? Preferably something that works quite quickly !
walshie 2,804
Glyphosate will kill it. I can confirm that. You have to spray it onto the living ivy though, rather than hacking it down first, so it absorbs it and kills it down to the roots.Once it's dry, it's harmless to animals. Might take 2/3 weeks though. i'm sure there may be better/quicker methods, but at least i know this way works.

CushtyJook 1,097
Cut it at the base but it will all turn brown then you have to remove it by hand
