My dog seems to find a rabbit no matter where we go so might start taking the ferret with me early at weekends while its cool. Just have a little dabble. I call one rabbit a success so it don't take much to give me a bit of sport :)

I went out for a very short session this morning, just to do 2 small warrens, nothing I the fist warren and only 1 in the second, I might do a few of these little sessions through August before the season starts proper.

I keep thinking back to a day last season I had ferreting a long ditch, was a really hard frost, the rabbits were bolting well, had a couple of easy digs. Was one of the most enjoyable days ferreting Ive ever had. The frosty days seem so far away now.

There dont seem to be to many furries in those holes this time of year ??... Ive done warrens which are normally full and had nothing! Think they hide in the bushes this time a year

Been training a couple off rescued gills then run my gills thru after. Nearly got caught out when doing a lane in a wood on a hill. While doing the lower hedge in the lane i realised the burrow had crossed sides under the lane I heard the rabbit rattle across and go the higher side. (shit are we in trouble now) 40' of bramble new ground we don't know and holes evey were. Broke in with the hedging hook tilled every thing i found. One poor ferret in, this has gone from a small six hole burrow (berry down here) to a fifty hole warren covered in brambles, we are in deep shit. Finder readings here then there hot day knackered, then after an hour she just walked out across the lane. She did have a few partings in her fore head she had a bit of stick, but we got her back.

Think i'll wait a bit. just doing a favour to get some new ground.

Cheers Arry.
