Reloading For A Rook Rifle

I have a 297/230 rook rifle that I use for target work. Its still at the play around with the load stage, so accuracy is a bit hit and miss. My aim (pardon the pun) is to use it as it was intended, namely shoot some rabbits with it. So I am looking for anybody with experience or load data,. Thanks

I don't know IF I can help, but I do have Colin Greenwood's book about the Classic British Rook & Rabbit rifle and there's a chapter about handloading the absolute calibers these rifles came in. Don't know if this of any help to you, could make a copy. It's a more general story, not in detail about what powder to use etc

 

I also have a couple of 1980's GunReviews with reloading data about R & R rifle ammo, will see of I can find them. Collected way to many stuff in all those years

Had a dig in on the old copies in one place (garden shed), they weren't there, so have to go and dig up the other place

Have found part one of the story by the same Colin Greenwood in the August 1987 copy of Gunreview, but still can't find the second part with the loading data

This might help. Google "rook rifle calibre"s and try the entry under "stalking directory".It has a thread on Rook rifles. I'm too much of a numpty to do a link but I gleaned this much. 297/230s came in short or long cartridges. Short used three and a quarter grains of BP. Long -five and a half grains . both used a 37 grain bullet apparently.

Found this link, don't know how accurate that data is. Have seen an article where people found the loading data given by CG a bit too hot.
