Hello

Today i have just bought a hw80 in .22 from a old man across the street for £60. Its came with a Simmons deerfield 4-12x40 scope, a sling & silencer fitted.

He say's he has had it about 20 years and that he bought it second hand. I have looked up the serial number and i believe it was made in 1983, so its a pretty old gun.

The overall external condition isn't to bad for age, no rust what i can see, but it is scratched in placers on barrel, especially on the silencer. The stock isn't to bad at all.

I haven't taking it apart as i don't know what im doing, only know how to shoot the things icon_smile_.gif. I have put a few pellets through and it seem's to cock and shoot fine.

When he said it was up for sell i had to buy it ( nearly took his hand off ) to sit along side my 97k.

Anyway my question's are:

How much would it cost to get it reblued plus a good service by a professional?

Could anybody recommend somewhere in the north east of england to do the work?

Any help much appreciated, thanks

Here are some photo's, not the best, i know.post-94813-0-68167200-1424984130_thumb.jpgpost-94813-0-91163300-1424984163_thumb.jpgpost-94813-0-00829000-1424984200_thumb.jpgpost-94813-0-19056500-1424984234_thumb.jpgpost-94813-0-62556700-1424984260_thumb.jpgpost-94813-0-65257900-1424984301_thumb.jpgpost-94813-0-22132000-1424984391_thumb.jpgpost-94813-0-02344200-1424984415_thumb.jpg

Hello there Copperpot and welcome to the forum.

First off well done on your purchase. You have a beauty of an HW80 here.

There's no set price for servicing and reblueing. Different gunsmiths will charge different prices. Nobody can tell from your photos what issues internally there may be to put right. But spares for HW80s are not all that dear and they are plentiful. But from what you've got here, any reasonable service cost is worth the money spent. You've got a brilliant bargain really for the money it cost you. And as you say it cocks and shoots fine, chances are you need not worry about its performance. If it ain't broke...etc! This HW80 you have, was built at a time when the company was building world class precision into their air rifles.. It just needs a cosmetic clean up of the silencer and a repaint with a black polyurethane enamel paint from your pictures. Or you could treat the rifle to a new one!

I have an HW80 .22 that's 17 years old and, even though it's on my FAC, it is a brilliantly accurate rifle I cannot be without.

Best wishes for your shooting with it.

Thanks for the welcome and for taking the time to reply Simon.

Yes i think i have got a real bargain here, as soon as i saw it i knew it was a cracking gun for being 32 years old ( at the time didn't know how old it was, but knew it was old ). It just goes to show how Weihrauch's are build to last.

You are right, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Like you say, i think i will put on a new silencer and leave the inside alone until something goes wrong with it.

Thanks again simon much appreciated.

You're welcome Steve. ;) Have a look at the work of a fellow here called Johnbaz in a post where he has done a marvellous job in restoring a rusty old HW80 in this technical section and send him a PM about your rifle. He really knows his stuff when it comes to refurbishing and restoring Weihrauch HW80s of certain vintage. He'll be well placed to advise you of what you might need to do.

Best wishes Steve. And looking forward to reading more posts about this rifle.

Daft question why reblueing it doesn't,t the scratching on the silencer show its honest age and work ? I wouldnt expect a gun of that age to look like it was just out the factory
