Kopis Knife , The Forerunner For The Kukri

Recommended Posts

ok this the first of a pair of large cutting knives , its based on the greek kopis , the famed blade of alexander the greats army , and believed to be the forerunner for the also famed napalese kukri \ gurkha knife.

constructed from 4mm thick o1 tool steel with a differential temper , meaning the cutting edge is hard to retain the cutting edge, and the spine - ricaso and tang all spring tempered for flexability.

the blade its self is 27 cm or 10 3\4" long 5cm or 2" at the widest point . it has a convex grind for strength when chopping , this is a superior grind for chopping tools in my mind as the cross section is stronger than a flat grind. blade is satin finnished .

the handle is a very nice piece of cocobolo wood with multipal brass pins and single lanyard tube.

the sheath is made from 3 thicneses of leather , hand brushed dye effect that ranges from light tan to dark brown at the edges and very dark brown on the back, it has a bras rectangle hoop and a belt hanger for better movement when walking etc .

asking price is £185 which covers paypal fees and firstclass recorded delivery .

ok pictures .

I hear you Chris . It's a niche blade that one .

Every kid I grew up with had a machete but my dad would never have allowed me to have one so never bothered with one from then to a few years back . A cheap one came up for sale so I got it and chopped it a bit and put a good edge on it . I can't imagine what I would do with out it now !

So useful for field craft stuff .

But I can understand why it's not for everyone .

Matt have you tried advertising on bushcraft forums? I used to be right into bushcraft, and again would've bought that in a heart beat back then as such a useful tool!

Your work and craftsmanship is absolutely outstanding mate, and like what has been said where else could you buy something like that?

It's a shame that you can't charge what you should really be charging for well handmade stuff these days, because you should be charging double for not only the work that you've put into it, but also for all the thinking that you've probably had to do to get to this stage!

I wish you all the best in making a honest living out of what not only looks brilliantly made, but what you obviously have a passion for making as well!!

And as soon as I've got a spare bit of money, I will be purchasing a knife from you.

Hi , yep it's on bushcraft uk forum . They like it but no buyers yet .

Probably a cost thing ??

Thanks for the positive support .

I'm not complaining really , Iv given it years to come right financially . If I could afford staff to really turn out volume I would carry on with budget stuff , but can't .

Now that , I like.

I use a billhook, but bloody hell Matt, that would be a tool and a half for ferreting and when away on the bike roughing it. Actually I could think of a thousand uses for that.

Very very nice.

Anyone considering this, I have 2 of midnights knives and they are superb.

Too nice to use! I currently use a billhook (scabby auld thing, but it works) I am waiting to see the promised machetes and axes from Matt! Although the kukri could be interesting!

The fieldcrafters are brilliant, I also have 2 of them, small and large, great tools.....

No , it's built to be used and will accept the abuse.

Keep it oiled and sharp last forever .

If it ever did get a bit beaten up I can give it a service , clean the blade re-establish the edge etc .

I'm planning a thread in the next couple of weeks on how to restore any of the carbon blades Iv made ..

Haven't been on here in a while and haven't been shooting in a while so I'm deciding so sell some gear and focus on other things.
Firstly is my BSA lightning tactical xl in .177 comes with hawke hd 3-9x40 scope, one piece mounts and a LED ray gl2 torch with flip up red filter and buffalo river case.
Only fault with the gun is the front sling swivel is missing.
I also have a mad dog growler jacket in APG size medium
A top gun skeet vest size medium
      British army Dpm smock medium-large
British army issue jungle boots size 11
Large jack pike shooting hold all
British army cam net unsure of size but large enough for a personal hide
I would like to see £130 for the rifle but I'm open to offers for everything together in a bundle
Collection only for the rifle but the other items I can post and take paypal payments
      I'm in Warminster Wiltshire
      Thanks
