That's a bit like putting minimal foundations under a house build if you don't mind me saying, and you will probably just end up not using it because it's not going to be very impressive: You want the best but will only spend just under half of what it costs - so will get just under half of a decent result.

The shit performance will look OK until you really need it to work... :cray:

The accepted best performing camera is the E700 from SURE24 @ less than £70. Save up if you have to and know you have got the best foundations for your NV build.

My advice is don't even start a build with a lesser camera because you will always know you could have made a better rig with all the other components being the same and taking the same effort to assemble..

Sorry Mick but I'm not going to do a merry go round of cheap supposedly low light camera's - you asked about the best then look for not the best. You don't say what calibre or range you shoot at nor what type of NV you would build.

That one has 450 lines as opposed to 700 lines resolution - and how small is that hole for not much light to get through? :whistling:

However a cheap camera will probably suffice for air ranges if you throw more IR out front than you would otherwise need with an E700/EJ230 - or even further if you blast a really powerful amount of IR - but neither of those options are anywhere near as covert as most people hope their NV will be.

I can only assume you are prepared to accept a low grade NV rig to save maybe £30~£40 ish. If you are easily pleased go with a cheap one till you realise you messed up. :tongue2:

That's a fair compromise Mick, It has an Exview sensor. ;)

The OSD crosshair building is a bit fussier than the KTC ones which are virtually one shot zero capable.

Get them to remove the IR filter for you being as they are offering to do it. It's not as easy as the others and many a man has fubared that bit.

Looks like a bullet version of this one http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1-3-SONY-960H-EXview-HAD-CCD-II-700TVL-0-0003Lux-D-WDR-OSD-2D-DNR/597493119.html

Which is what I use on the back of a 10x42 hawke tac 30

This was taken tonight (hope I haven't broke any rules)

With just the garden cctv ir light for illumination, not a very good one at that.

I would go for the e700 but not being able to fit a cs lens like the 32mm board cameras puts me of,besides,I have the build setup so the cctv board can be changed very easily should something better hit the market....provided its 32 x 32 mm with corner holes for mounting

theres adaptors to go from the board lens holder to c or cs.. or just unscrew the mount on the board and put a CS mount in its place. (cs to c is posable, theres loads of adaptor rings for a few a quid, but c to cs isnt so posable).

theres even cs to m42 adaptors for between 8-20 quid..

i dont know much about the bullet cams other than a lathe is needed to mill the mount to fit non bullet cam lenses that cost a fair bit more.

You cannot fit any lens holder to the e700....there's no holes in the board in which to attach the mtv or c mount lens holder.

There is a c mount holder with a 12mm thread that can be screwed into the e700 case where the 12mm lens would normally go,then attach your c mount lens but they're only useful if you want to use a c mount 1/3 lens,.....I use 2/3rd format lens so that screw in jobbie is of no use, purchased one....tried it....threw it in the bits box, been there ever since

I think some people had problems getting forcus with it on the e700 case, might need a bit 'shaving' off in order to get focus.

This is the lens I use at the moment..

I think the op will do alright with the bullet cam, although it might need a bit of work on fitting the larger lens, not 100% sure on that though.

Sure is  ....if they ever do the e700 on a 32x32mm board with provision to fit the mtv 12mm or c mount lens holder I'd buy one....or even a 'c' mount case might tempt me :D

A short video using the 1/3 sony exview blah blah camera in the link, tamron 25mm 2/3 f1.4 lens on a hawke 10 x 42 tac30...which is not as good for this add on nv as the MTC scopes..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZh1yL3eKag&feature=youtu.be

tree is 72yds,chimney 43yds and house with white gable etc 79yds

And just to compare,a short vid using the home build spotter....this has a cmos 1/4 imx 139 sensor,cosmicar/pentax 2/3rd 12.5-75mm f1.8 lens,ir is a T20 12v oslon 850nm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTTVLpf_poQ&feature=youtu.be

Towards the end of the above vid the T20 is unplugged, you can see why dave (some bloke) is keen on the scopeless route, you certainly do lose a lot of light coming through the scope.

Apologies for the fiddling focus,I didn't have my reading glasses on so couldn't see the bloody screen that well :icon_redface:
