The thing with the females camouflage is that she seems to blend in no matter where she lays! I've found mallard nests a long way from any water, the duck must do well to lead her ducklings on a long march to the nearest water, but it's amazing how she knows where it is.... The parents don't seem to realise that the chicks will not be able to get out of bywashes and sumps along channels near reservoirs. I carry a landing net in my van, so I scoop them out and put them somewhere they can be safe. Normally in the reservoir! I've had one or two holes knocked through the odd lodge so they can get out as I can't be everywhere to help them. 3 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
