How was that one bred yokel?! Sounds ideal! How did you get him knowing the difference

was a fell x russel, worker to worker (earth dogs). done nothing to get him to know the difference, just showed him work. i suppose once he was of an age, and got entered to fox, that was the main job he was used for, but he definitely knew what was expected of him under different circumstances. he would rat in the summer, bush to put gear out for lurcher and also came out beating on more than one occasion. but he was first and foremost a fox dog, never false marked, never failed to find and would stay all day if required...oh, and you never needed to dig more than one hole...have some pics knocking about somewhere, i'll see if i can dig um out...

Good thread and some good replys, I use my old terrier for Fox and bunny, I even use her for ferreting, only time I've ever had to dig her out a bunny earth and she was on mink lol I got that many bunnys here it would drive a dog mad not being allowed to work them, I've used a few different folks dogs when they were here, an once you can tell what signs mean what quarry the dog is marking then the games on lol I'll be needing a pup soon to fill her boots tho. I honestly believe most terriers even digging dogs that are never allowed off lead will make handy bushers given the chance

I let mine bush rabs when I'm in places where I am confident she won't find an earth to enter which is most of the time unless I'm on a call out LOL

I have worked all my terriers above and below ground and never had problems on terriers sticking

with rabbit to ground. the dog soon learns as it matures .and as its been said already in this thread

it learns them to use there noses .that is what makes a diff imho between a good un and your average

dog .they need to stick and stay tight but there nose is one of there greatest assets its not all about bumbling

around a sett hoping to bump in to something .good thread

Ive done the same Shellfish,you,ve had more luck than me,ive terriers that know the difference and work accordingly,a young Lakey here worked bunny,s with a vengeance,as soon as she encountered a fox or 3 she will no longer work Bunny,s with any sort of enthusiasm,my main fell bitch will work both with the same vigour,above and below,the Beddy worked bunnys with vengeance on top,totally ignored them as soon as they went underground.Its knowing the mutt and its workstyle that solves the majority of problems,problems still crop up though?.
