Gamebore black gold 5's 30g do the job especially for long range birds they are a amazing cartridge

Sporting shooter I can only say it as I see it and I will fire many thousand cartridges a year at quarry from Snipe to geese ....the past 3 seasons I have shot driven pheasants and partridge ....100,200-300 bird days sometimes 4 times a week and if some one turned up at my shoot with 28gr 7 1/2 s I would ask them to use a more suitable round ...if you were shooting birds of any height and quality you would surely be priking a load of stuff .

Well I usually only fire around 4000 of these 28g 7s a year between vermin and game, I use a different cartridge for clays. I can't say in my experience I find they kill any less effectively than if I were to use 4s, 5s or 6s.

 

I've shot with countless people on countless so called "high bird" shoots that prick far more than I do with heavier loads of larger shot.

 

I have more pellets, harder pellets, faster pellets and ones actually designed to shoot at long distance. These shells are not your average clay load which granted I wouldn't use. These are proven in my own gun and my own mind for me to not need to look for anything else.

 

Everyone is different and if a safety margin is needed then people will use larger shot, my point being it isn't always better or necessary.
