Yes it's a huge grey area one bird with no ring shouldn't be a problem but get a few and it's dodgy ground a year ago I was involved in a court case concerning twite.

I got a pair for a friend off a friend in Belgium he bred dome and didn't ring 1 he also had 2 unrung mealy redpolls these were big show quality and if anyone has bred these they will no they are tricky to ring as they have big feet and have to be rung around 3 days, he could prove the parentage as he had them but he still got took to court his solicitor fees, we're in excess of 10,000

I was due to give evidence the second day but at 5pm of the first day the judge had asked to see the breeding records for the adult twite I had to ring belgium and luck would have it my pal mailed over the seasons records with ring numbers and a letter stating he could hot all the way back to 1982 my friend was lucky that he was found not guilty but he then had to take the rspca to court to recover his legal fee's and there is no guarantee you will get them.

The worst thing is many solicitors don't know nothing about wildlife and countryside law

Well after the second attempt the goldie hen has hatched the 3 egg's she has been sitting on.. :boogy: ..let's hope they all survive and grow as quick as the greenies..   http://i1238.photobucket.

Just checked them and the ring's have stayed on.. and i got the 3rd one done and i hazard a guess they will stay put..

That a fair point Moss worth taken in to consideration.. ..luckely for me i am all legal so anyone who want's too come knocking will go away with egg on ther chin.. :D

Absolutely horrific, the amounts they can charge for their ignorance and incompetence though. Like f**king vets!

Bottom line? Both are best avoided, by 'Best Practice', where ever possible.
