clays slow down birds dont they speed up after first shot, try not to think about what your doing, just do it, i find that if i am snap shooting i hit alot more than if i see the bird coming, too much time to think about what your going to do

goes against all teaching but i hit far more through anticipating where the birds going to be, rather than swinging and following through, if that makes sense

As above but also sounds like you are aiming the gun, you aim a rifle you point a shotgun with your eyes on the bird.

Anticipating lead on the bird , range and speed takes practise and as mentioned gun mount and fit play an important part.

A trip to a local clay ground and a little tuition could help a lot.

good advice! I would recomend you see a coach to get you off on the right foot! The more u shoot and miss the worse ur confidents will be!

you need to see a coach mate, the gun must always be moving with the target, you would hit far more still with the right guidance!

I shoot everything with a maintained lead what that maintained lead is depends on the speed of the target be it a clay or a real pigeon.

Only experience can teach you that just like hitting a ball with a bat its all hand eye coordination.

The best method of shooting anything is let your mind imagine when its the best time to pull the trigger, on the clay ground I usually subconsciously pick a point where I want to break the clay then when I step in the cage I have already a plan as the where is my ideal point to shoot the clay.

Clay pigeon shooting teaches you a great deal but pigeon shooting is about waiting until a bird is within your comfort zone to kill it confidently.

The worst thing to do on pigeons is shoot at every bird until you hit one, your just waisting cartridges, concentrate on getting the birds into a killing zone.

But if a gun doesn't fit it will show on the clays and at least your not waisting cartridges on real birds get the fit right before going out pigeon shooting/ game shooting.
