Twink Mkii & Weihrauch Hw 100 Silencer

Recommended Posts

I personally think the battle for the quietest Moderator was won by Weihrauch with its HW.

Instead Gun manufacturers should by trying to improve the size and weight of future models and ease of use.

Just my opinion.

You might be right mate and you have a very valid point.

I have been through all this for many a year with the rimfire moderators.

They all said the next silencer was better than the other and like you I had my opinion and sort of stuck by it and personally

I always did well at what I did ( rabbit control using the .22 CZ452 ) and never fell into the trap of "the more you spend the better it is".

I am now making the move after years of using a rimfire to begin with a sub 12ft/lb .177 and I believe I will be able to do the job just as good,

Well that's my objective so once I get going I should have yet another DVD out but this time I will be using my air rifle.

Thanks mate

Steve

Really, you're moving from rimfire to air power? Sorry Steve, are you the same Steve with the excellent Fieldsports channel on YouTube?

I am mate ! Well I am fieldsports1 on there. But believe me mate I am looking forward to the challenge after 20 odd year of subsonics.

I do need a change mate

And I was one of them fellas that frowned upon airguns and was undereducated about the capabilities they have due to my own attitude that was "I do not want to know"

After reading and speaking to people that own rifles that are air powered I NEED the challenge mate to prove to myself if nothing else that I was wrong and sub 12 air power can be effective in the right hands.

Do not sound disappointed ....LOL I am not...LOL

Thanks for the reply mate

Interesting, I'll look forward to your uploads with the HW100. You may even convince me not to sell! Good luck with the challeng. If you prefer air power to powder burner go the springer route for even more of a challenge.. I think you have a 80' don't you?

I did have a 80 mate..Just parted with it after fitting a tuning kit made from phosphor bronze that I had made.

It had a nasty habit of creeping up just over the top of the limit, I was always sh*tting myself as one day it was 11.5 and the next it was 12.3

I then tried a FX Cyclone and it was a pain to me as it was over the top as well and the valve on them is in the air tank and adjusting it was tedious.

After I got it down to 11.4 it decided to leak overnight so I got sick of playing about with it and went for a brand new HW100KT...

After all I was shooting rabbits with the rimmy at approx 40 to 60 yards as a rule of thumb and the places I have was sometimes closer than that so I had to back off them to get a shot that would count.

A decent air rifle like I have in a .177 should do a 40 to 45 yard kill on a rabbit no problem.

I know the speed of travel is reduced but ....its the challenge I need it.

Not to mention the cost of the rimfire ammo these days.

When I began it was £38 -40 for a thousand rounds of winchester subs...You will not even get 500 for that now ...yes the price of winchester subs is mental.

Then licensing fees and all the carry on getting references and forms signed is a right chew .......

I reckon 8 quid for a tin of 500 pellets is the better option and use skill, knowledge and experience to shoot with an air powered beauty will be just fine.

Well its what I want to try to more or less prove a point to myself if nothing else.

Thanks Steve

Twink Mk2 on my Huntsman....superb. Shorter than the HW and more effective. PLUS it is made by a man in a shed in Nottinghamshire - so I am supporting the little man and keeping my money in the country. (Although Ady cannot be called "little",not really!) I am going to see if I can persuade him to make the inner baffle washers as a reflex design, if they were angled backwards a bit, dished, then I think it would be even more effective - and mine is a .22 on a .20, so larger space around the pellet reducing the efficiency of the sound deadening. If he will play with dished baffles and drill them at .025 I am sure it will bring it down another 10% - at which point the loudest thing will be the hammer hitting the valve.

Whilst we are on the subject of Moderators has any one ever tried to alter the effects on a Shrouded barrel ? :hmm:

I know that you can't beat having a proper Moderator on the end of your Rifle, but it would be nice to know what results any one has achieved by having a play around with the internals on a Shroud or Bull barrel .

I've a cracking BSA Super 10 Mk3 BBK that needs a little quieting down and although I've had a look at altering the internals I wouldn't know where to start to get the best effect ?

This might be interesting to the lads that have the FSB HW 100 as well.
