Woodcock-nice to see them back

Recommended Posts

Drawing to the end of yet another season on our Shoot on the Lincs/Leic border, for us it's deffinately been a bad year for them. Only put one up on a driven day and the only woodcock to be shot was on a walk up on earlier this month.

One year I'll eventually manage to bag one! :laugh:

That’s not my experience. All the birds we shoot and that are shot on estates local to me are processed by game dealers. A lot of them are exported to the continent. Any that are too badly damaged hav

No mate, when I was younger I had shots at a couple. Had a couple at one on Saturday. But tbh just never really had many opportunities. I really don't do that much game or fowl shooting, maybe 3-4 serious walk up days a year. I'll get one one day.... LOL

Like I said mate, I'd never seen so many woodcock as on your patch! Seriously, last season up here 3 were shot in total between 10 driven days and 3 walk up days! And that is about the best tally I have seen in 8 years of shooting! This year 2 have been flushed and 1 shot between 9 driven days and 4 walk up days. LOL

Don't be a twat, first time I'd seen a woodcock dropped with a 410! :icon_eek::notworthy: ......................................... b*****d! :laugh:

That 18 month bitch you have will make a handy dog. I was telling my mate about it, cracking little thing, bit of time she'll come good. I'll let you know if I hear of anything decent.

  • 10 months later...

Today was my 7th day out beating pheasants this season and there has only been a few woodcock seen in each of these days and has only ever been a couple shot each day. The weather ain't hard enough yet in the north to bring them in any numbers to Argyll .

They are amazing to see the dog work them and flush them . I never call "woodcock "as they get up as I don't think it's sporting . I also think it leads guns to getting over excited and take unsafe shots.
