gamerooster 1,179 Posted October 21, 2012 Report Share Posted October 21, 2012 Also day old's are a lot cheaper, at 4 weeks old they double the price, they can be as much as £10 for small amounts. the extra cost of off heat poults would be offset against the cost and effort of sorting a draught free brooder and heat lamp/heat source and light out, that would make it more expensive.... unless of course you could adopt them under A broody hen??? TWOTWOTHREE 152 Posted October 23, 2012 Report Share Posted October 23, 2012 I hatch mine on or around the first of August 4/5 weeks of heat then out to the sheds fed growers from 6 week and they will make a good family size bird,Im only doing 10 per year for friends and family, it seems to take ages for the growth spurt but I comes in plenty if time for the oven, my mate day olds hatch in may and its too early unless you weigh out their feed allowance or you have an oven as big as a shopping trolly it's best to leave it a month or two longer,it's not the rules just my experience from experimenting,good luck Atb Quote Link to post Share on other sites

There the fellas, they fly ok if you have good ground to flush them off, if the grounds flat I wouldn't bother, takes a let's say sharper gun dog to get them to lift them trialing crap are no good, lol, it also gives the keeper a extra bit of cash at a £ 100 donation if shot & cull the rest for Xmas for the best free range turkeys you'll get.. I did how ever hear your not ment to do it but hey ho lol yeah i heard that to!!! the shoot i seen them was in shropshire and they became characters in the area, going round the farms together regularly raiding the corn sheds, visiting the cottages dotted round the estate etc etc couple got shot and three were pegged by beaters dogs but the few that survived the season were left in the woods and even hatched a clutch of young!!!! 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
