Howdy guys...   Those of you that know me personally will know that I'm truly above board with everything to do with airgunning, sharing my advice when I can etc and would never do things deliberate

And so this thread rambles on....   Well considering, about 10 years ago, a certain police firearms officer up this way, got himself sent down for pocketing about £30,000 cash fiddled from the FAC/S

Aww bloody hell Darryl mate I'm sorry to see what's happened here. Particularly so for your wife and family, who suddenly had armed police officers tromping about her home and her man treated like a

Pianoman is a legend round these parts would be an honour to meet you Simon if you come to the meet.

That is very kind of you to say Mawders. I'd be delighted to meet you with Miles too.;) The best of shooting to both you gentlemen.!

DavidTQ Welcome to the section.

No amount of shooting insurance will save you from arrest if the police should happen to find reason to have your rifle tested in their forensic lab and their pellet is proven to take your rifle over the 12ft/lb limit. To be absolutely certain, get your rifle chronographed with several pellet weights of its calibre.

Bit cheeky to ask you to spend money on pellets or wotnot to get a chrono done. It's in your gunshop's interest that their customers stay legal or, the police will have them in serious shit if they are found to be selling air rifles that are found to perform over 12ft/lbs.

But the police are not bad guys in my book. Nor are they my mates. They will not impede or hassle you if you do not give them reason to.

For the first time ever in my shooting life, I had two officers in a 4x4 stop me as I was loading my cased rifle and a bag of rabbits and woodies into the boot of the car, a few nights ago at the end of my hunting foray on my permission.

All they said was "Been shooting, got Permission??"

I said "I have, and have so for the last 43 years here!" I just pointed in the direction to my landowner mate's farmhouse and gave them his name.

That was "Good enough for us!" and they were gone. That simple and quick.

If I had used the "Advice" not to comply (Idiot! That means not to say what they'd want me to say) the hooded arse in the clip gives, I'd have probably had a long drawn out exchange and a less happy outcome. No thanks. Co-operation and a cheerful attitude gets a quick and happy departure from the attention of the police.

Stay safe.

Simon

My reservations would rise to the fore however should the conversation turn towards "Lets have a look in that slip..." but not need to flog that horse. It's dead.

A bit like this thread...........

Well and truly my big breasted contributor :icon_eek::icon_redface:

If I had bought the rifle from them, or if I was a regular customer, I would possibly expect that sort of service, but Ive not had anything to do with them before, so I was pleased with the offer. If I havent spent money with them in the past I dont think its fair to "expect" them to take their time and use their equipment for free.

If I was a regular there and spent a lot of money with them I might well feel more comfortable receiving a free service without spending anything on that visit.

I fully intend to stay well on the legal side, In my profession I really do not want any possibility of convictions or bad press, and after reading this and a couple of other threads I WILL be making sure that even a new rifle I buy in the future will be chrono'd before I leave the shop, I had no clue new rifles could possibly be illegal out of the box! I have no intention of doing anything to provoke trouble, politeness and being reasonable is absolutely always a first resort, if that doesnt work then its time to bring in the legal team or get official.

On the insurance side I view it as protection not against me doing something stupid, but on having a genuinely arguable case / unreasonable police actions etc. Having previously suffered such an injustice first hand due to poor representation and conversely having later seen the effects of quality representation, I would feel far more comfortable having that safety. I do not know how this example would work out, but with access to specialist representation and advice I would feel far more comfortable that I am dealing with things in the best possible way. Say I had a PCP that is at most putting out 11.5 normally with any pellet type, being tested by the police on a uncalibrated chrono or being tested whilst at a lower than normal operating pressure when it can produce ratings well over the legal limit, as I understand it this sort of thing CAN happen with PCP's although I have no experience in the field, I would have thought that a suitable expert solicitor would do a better job of making sure that at least after appeals justice prevails. It is my unfortunate experience that duty solicitors arent much use, and specialists in a given field are.

I am not by any means anti police in general, I have been more than willing to help them where I can, but I am aware that bad things can happen to good people and having a safety net is every bit as important and doing things by the book. My unfortunate experience is that you dont have to be doing anything wrong at all to end up in a bad situation. I like the comfort of knowing that I have back up as long as I do my part knowing that free of charge if I find myself in a bad situation I can make a call to an expert who is in my corner and knows the right things to do is invaluable.

Ive looked at the combro Ive got no doubt I will get one down the line, especially as I am a bit of a tinkerer, but for now I have a rifle and I want to make absolutely sure its legal ASAP.

Yes all police officers are spotless in their behaviour!, Remember the poor newspaper seller killed by a riot police thug who attacked him and the poor fellow died shortly after!. How about the Armed responce officers who have shot several unarmed people "Because they might have been carrying guns?? " one of them a three year old hiding in the bedcovers! Non of these "Britons Finest" have been jailed for killing those people. In todays papers a Metropolitan police constable walked free after being caught growing cannabis in his loft?? Good job he was in the police force or like the rest of the population he would be in the slammer! arh yes, it makes me Hrmm, whats the word,? No not proud, yes Sick the way bent cops are looked after by their officers and workmates.

Whilst cases like that are swept under the carpet so to speak. Whilst they stay, erm how would a politician put it? "Acceptably infrequent". No one will do anything. Bit like the ipcc does now. We had a local case where a police woman killed a 17 year old on a moped when she was late for duty. Ranks closed, no conviction ever announced.

I haven't forgotten. Nor has his family.

I stay, as much as is feasible, out of their way...
