Wild bird photography and the law.


Recommended Posts

To protect rare breeding birds, the law prohibits intentional

disturbance of any species included in Schedule 1 of the

Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This applies while such

a bird is building a nest, or is in, on or near a nest

containing eggs or young. It is also illegal to intentionally

disturb dependent young of Schedule 1 birds.

Photographers cannot visit such nests unless they obtain the

appropriate licence from the relevant authority. These are as

follows:

Good info Moll, do you know if anyone (ie joe normal, not a mad-on eagle/osprey/peregrine/chough etc watcher) has been done for any pic taking?

wouldnt be able to tell what spieces they were if i took any so im safe :laugh:

No Dytkos, but I do know someone who had the police at his door for taking photos of a rare bird, after posting them on here years ago. Some stupid joke about a spud gun (Kind that shoot bits of potatoes or something) and he had the police at his door, the farmers door, and his mate lost his permission :doh:

thanks moll the reason i asked was i put a thread up awhile ago about bird egg photograghy as i have found numerous nesting birds ie chif chafs,whitethroats buzzads kezzies finhes tits jays and plenty more . now i had all these birds eggs on a phone but deleted them as a lad off here said it was illegal and i really wanted to start a thread on this subject thanks :thumbs:
