why not use a proven lurcher and why do people prefer stright backed to a sloped

think those sloapy backed things are somthing the kc breeders have made popular,, and isnt that the reason for the poor hips in gsd..

well with the straight +long back you less chance of getting (H/D) that a prone in gsd 's , the sloping backend are more prone to hit as told by my vet. Regards the use of a coursing dog as to greyhound, with the gsd being 4 8/s you will get all the stanina you need anyway, so the greyhound will give the all the speed you will ever need .

aye thats right flint, you aint the 1st or only person to do it tongue2.gif

with out arguing give me one good reason why youd use a coarsing dog

they work...

il tell you why not then , the x as plenty of stamina if fit , very clever and plenty of guts, and the pups from the straight x , should look very much the same, from the coarsing dog they could be al shapes and size,s and you also have a good chance of losing a bit of speed

i never asked you flint, an i doubt i ever would ask your advice or thoughts on a subject to be fair.....

a lot of the lurcher men i know that aint breeding litters for profit, but for there own use are using the coursing dogs instead of grey, im not saying its right or wrong, im just saying its worth thinking about...

after all aint coursing dogs just doing the job a proper grey should be :D

eddited to add, best of luck with the litter, what ever way yous breed it

Again id disagree in this Instance.

Maybe for the next Generation ie , Coursing Lurcher x F1 Greyhound x German Sheperd depending on which whay you want to go with a F1 Cross.

I'd still stand by my thoughts, but be boring if we all thought the same

Surely the best choice would be a very fast coursing dog, something that is a greyhounds equal in terms of speed but with the hereditary line bred lurcher savvy? That'd be my choice for the sighthound half of a first cross, best of both worlds imo.

Probably not an 3/3 hare dog as I doubt the animal in my mind would have enough saluki in it.

saw steve bartons dogs work ,been with the lad from filey saw his dogs and a lad not here now ,who had alsaition crosses from ediburgh area al worked ,none pacey but had good attributes put back to a dog like rex my own ,buddy etc through time ,and even better dog will be had ,saw bartons dogs several times got pics of them and competed against them , and saw my mates from edinburgh catch foxes cats feral early ninties , the lad from fileys were a nice type to but needed a bit more running dog in them but not greyhound ,good qaulity runing coursing dog pacy ones as there enough bone in a alsaition cross for any man,

I think I get what flints trying to say if your looking for an even type in a litter the less breeds in the mix the better. Plus alsatian/greys although can throw there hand to most things are a specialist dog adding saluki could be detrimental to what you what to achieve. just my view.

I to have seen the lad from Fileys dogs to, if am right he had a 7/8 grey 1/8 gsd as well as his others and used to knock about with the owner of BOB ;) Also watched Bartons Rooney work in the trials too. But as i said earlier in this thread my mate had a straight half cross that was a handy tool for larger stuff. I do think they are a bit of a specialist dog and are like marmite, you either love them or hate them  Atb
