If a fox was after my live stock and I had a brick I'd dam well chuck it at it .

From the first post this was always going to develop into a 17HMR isn't up to fox debate.   Some of you guys are VERY blinkered, I have used a .22lr, HMR and WMR on foxes and they have always been t

I went out specifically for a fox in these, and many other pics I have, both were baited to a close, and appropriate, shooting position and the best suited rifle was used for the job, the housing esta

North Wales conditions are a but skewif as well. I have sent my licence back on numerous occasion for varitaions, each time i have added the wording of " vermin control" next to the entry for 17hmr as well as next to the entry for .223. Each time they send it back I get a condition of pest and vermin control on the 17hmr but for the .223 its always ignored and they just keep putting " for zeroing and destruction of fox", I keep asking for the vermin condition to be attached to the .223 and they say yea no problem then when it comes back its just as before! It shows that some people in this office either have instructions from above or they just dont bother to check!

Ha Ha, this thread has already spawned what should have been probably half a dozen or more OTHER individual threads, and off we go again.....

Ask for "ALL LAWFUL QUARRY" next time and see what happens!

Hi all new here so please be a little gentler with me than you have been over the past few pages with another!!!!!!!!!!.

Have found the last 4 pages quite interesting and the views expressed. personally i would always use common sense and stay within the law. Knowing the your own limits as well as those of your equipment, we all like to think we are born snipers but in reality most of us are just average shots!!!. i have Fox control on my certificate for both my 223 and 22lr. i also have a section 1 shotgun which also has fox control. i must admit i have my views on .17 and foxes, but will keep them to myself, to save my self the agro that someone else got for airing his opinoin on here.

the 17hmr has created a whole generation of snipers  being a good shot is far more than putting the cross hairs on the target and pulling the trigger. even if it is 3.000,000 miles away  and head shot  dont ask me to explain at best im average, and on average im shite

I'm confident in hitting a pound coin sized target out to say 75 yards and would bet £500 of my own money on that. So up to that range I'd happily head-shoot a fox with my hmr and know it won't twitch, get wounded or run.

I've no doubt that the hummer isn't the ideal tool for the job, that's a .22cf or .243 job for much longer, reliable killing ranges.

be willing to see if this is accurate ???? even in windy conditions ???

Well iam no expert but i must admit that what he said made sense to me,and i dont have a degree, and am no instructor, designer, and i miss my fair quota of shots. point being as an average shot i would not take head shots at anything over 100yrds with my 223 i know it will group quarter minute groups at 100yrds on the range but in the field the conditions vary.

Thats great and as most people say, know your limitations, with your rifle, ammo and personnal skill level in all conditions. I was interested though on what factual ballistics he was basing the 80m on. Not to have a dig, but to learn from others knowledge. Unfortunatley though, some people do quote figures, with no ballistic backing other than their point of view.

Nobody, is saying that there are not better rifles, in certain circumstances.

Who said you should?

I am somewhat confused by your first 2 posts, just what point are you trying to get across that has not been covered in this thread several times already?

I am very cautious and sceptical very often as many here know, you joined at 12.40 today and decided to enter this thread as a starter, I take it you are richmcgin come back for another bite!

rmac ..... richmcgin

well i dont have a .17 so would find it dificult to comment with any accuracy and a limmited understanding of balistics. but i thought that it was generally good practice to limit fox shooting to 80-100yrd with the 17hmr but reading this thread i see that, that is not the case.

LOL, i've just got back in and this post is still retracing its steps for the umpteenth time as Deker has so patiently pointed out again.

Rmac [bANNED TEXT], read the thread from the beginning and you will find all the answers within the first half dozen pages. In my opinion diregard anything written by richmcgin as he is a fool.

Thats me putting it politely on how i see him.

I'm finished on this one but will simply say cheers to Deker for the insight into a specialised side to huntng that i know bugger all about.

Atb Chris.

P.S I feels it in ma watar that yir the same loon Rmac.
