Quick flit

Over to the farm otday to see Anna's mum who has just come out of H after an op. We took the puppies over to see her ot cheer her up. I left Anna with her Mum and puppies and took Fly down to the woods for a squirrel, it was lovely and sunny.

As we crossed the ditch into the wood and just as we got under a holly tree a flock of pigeons descended and landed in the trees around. I hissed for Fly to sit, which she did. I lined the rifle up on the undercarriage of the only pigeon offering anything like a shot and squeezed off. The pigeon dropped like a stone as the 20 cal Bisley Superfield drilled its way through to the heart and lungs. One in the bag and we had only been in the wood 1 minute!

We worked our way down the wood, very slowly. Moving 10 yards and then leaning against a tree for 10 minutes, watching all around. A fw squirrels were active and I saw one silhouetted on a bough about 40 yards away. I lined up the space between the circles of the Nikon's ballistic reticule and the squirrel tumbled out of the tree. Fly pounced on it and retrieved it to me. Not bad.

We waited for ages and then another party of pigeons arrived. This time their was one that offered a good shot. I had space through the twigs to shot and downed the second to make it a brace. The sun was dipping and I didn't want to distur the pheasants from going to roost. They were shooting all around I knew if I left early enough the disturbance of the shooting would mean we had a load more pheasants in our "quiet" wood!

That was it. An outing for the old Theoben Taunus 20 cal for a change. I have been taking the 177 s410 or the Olympus and it was good to get back to basics. I had better take the Grand Prix out next time!
