ratting without night vision

Recommended Posts

its easier to buy the correct size to fit basicaly, but when they take the piss on the price home mades work, some just as well or even better, but it depends what you got and what can you get hold off at the right price.

sweat rappers will colour a light...its more about the light loss though. (blue tac has a multitude of of uses lol, including to hold your presure switch on the gun no marks left).

a hint on filters, some make it a colour no prob's, but its a bright light under it, add another filter layer, because pure orange beets a thin orange every time.(at the loss of light though..).

they may not be abe to see a particulat colour, but they can see light intencity, so too thin a clour filter its still smacking them in the eye balls because its too bright or too much of the bulb 'white light' going through.

i've seen a rat stop, turn back and try grabbing the mid bit of a red lazer beem.. they cant see red. so obviously they can see 'brightnes'.

( a hint on a dimmer switch there...).

i have some colored filters from a disco ball of all things which are in all coulours, blue red orange and green. Maybe i could use these if the proper ones are not to much. Hopefully ill get this into practice and start getting better results. However The permission owner; built there own house which is joined to the ridding school (i know not the best idea ) but they have, yesterday after a chin wag with the guy he informed me the roof space of the bungalow which is 60 feet long has 1.5 ft of insulation. I couldn't understand for a long time why i only was seeing them against this wall of the ridding school and not in the barns or feed room. :hmm: ...

try the filters out.. if they dont fit exsactly use some electricle tape and rap it carefully on the scope and filter, a slight lip over the filter about 1mm or 2, before you fold it over nip it to feather the edge of the tape and bend down each lip.

then your away..lol.

personaly i wouldnt bother with bigger lamps when a CREE torch is about, only let down on CREE stuff is no dimmer switch, although some have half settings or more.

how can i target rats without night vision... is there a good coulour filter for rats? also i carnt seem to find the nest but have found two holes only... should i bait between the holes and let then build confidence and then shoot them this way?

hi buddy

you need to do a recky of the land, and observe where the holes are and the droppings, set some bait between this line choclit.peanut butter, cat food, dog food, all liquidised so they cant take it away, hence you having time to take the shot!

you can start by lamping them with a red filter! and when you repeatable lamp it they get use to it,they will associate it with danger!and run, try changing your filter from time to time!

if this fails? then buy a NV monocular watch them! wait till they start to feed or forage, then take a reference from the sky line shoulder your rifle and put it at the point, and slowly bring it down to the position, quick flick of the lamp, then steady your aim,and take up the first stage and flick the lamp back on squeeze thwack, rat down!

this will only get you so far, until it will be a pain and no sport! then you can try the ND laser and pick em of!

but your best solution is a NV add on or a dedicated night vision scope! ratting can work out to be expensive, but once you get the kit its highly addictive and rewarding!

hope this has helped
