Was at the show both days and must say it was a very well organised and professionally run show. The judging standard was second to none, well done to all involved.!   There is a lot of work goes i

He'll prop be bunking off today to go kill some rats lol

Myself and Justin Hill have been running this event for 13 years now and this "dogs balls" is certainly not involved,so folks can we please resort back to possitive issue's surrounding shows rather t

Yes John there will be a class for collie cross on the day, there has'nt been a big turn out of this cross this past number of years .

But i would encourage anyone with collie cross Lurchers to bring them on the day to support this class.

And also this cross has a very successful history in the high jump event in recent years,so it would be good to see this cross compete

against all the modern day cross's like the bull cross in our New High Jump Event

Tullyeyed,

Good to hear that the Gilford Club are getting some investment from the Norther Ireland Countryside Festival organisers towards what is an ambitious Terrier & Lurcher programme. I am genuinely looking forward to seeing the wide range of events at Moira. It is good to see that our investment in the Terriers, Whippers and Lurchers has stimulated better investment in prizes at Moira.

With a bit of luck the Gilford Club might get the Fair organisers to match the prize & trophy fund at Ballywalter ( 5th & 6th May) and with a bigger push might come someway towards Shanes( 7th & 8th July) & Birr ( 25th & 26th August).

With Bill claiming an 'investment of a MILLION pounds ' for Moira, I am sure he can put some it towards the terrier & lurchers!

To give the Fair organisers something to aim at our prize fund cash, prizes and trophies etc for Terriers, Whippets and and Lurchers for the three shows is approaching €6,000 and I have still to make up my mind what I will give the terrier winner at Shanes. PLUS of course we have brought a top UK judge to Ballywalter and plan to bring three UK judges to Shanes Castle.

The organisers of the National Country Sports Fair at Moira has always give 100% support to the Gilford Club, for example the past few years they have not

charged an entry fee for anyone just attending our Lurcher & Terrier Events so you don't have to pay into the main fair if our events is all you are interested in attending ( i have yet to see this option at any other Game Fair )

Also there is always Top Prizes & Trophies at Moira every year and as regards this MILLION pounds investment this is of no relevence to the Gilford Club

so i would suggest you contact the organisers of the Fair regarding your interest in where this investment is actually being invested into.

As regards your comment on bringing a top UK judge to Ballywalter ,we have in the past brought judge's over from Wales,Scotland & England to our Events

at Moira with all expenses kindly funded by Bill and Derek,i don't think anyone can argue with the quality judges from Ireland at Moira this year and they will no doubt

produce a top performance on the day as will the judge's you have at Shanes in Rose & Kieran as i have previously supported your selection at Shanes.

I think it's important that we show support to all our shows as much we can and when we can and try and avoid this "our shows better than your show" ethos.

As i personally never attend another show and compare prize's,trophies ect to what we present at Moira and would certainly never use another events post to compare Moira to their event being advertised.

Regards

Ian,

My post was a bit 'tongue in cheek'!

And it wasn't aimed at you personally or your organisation of the terrier & lurcher events at Moira - as I said before I have a genuine admiration for the number of different events you are running at Moira.

I appreciate that you personally haven't said your events are bigger & better than anyone else's but I suggest you take a look at the Moira NI countryside festival website and tweets ( NUMEROUS) about the terriers & lurchers and you will see some, what I would say, apparently misleading comparisons and claims being made. It claims : "Northern Ireland's biggest terrier and lurcher weekend will be at Moira Demesne over the weekend of 26th & 27th May 2012. The terrier and lurcher events are sponsored the National Countrysports Fair, Charlie Keenan Outdoor and Sporting Dog. The prize fund this year will exceed £1,000" .

I thought I might just put this claim into context on a relevant thread relating to and promoting the terrier, whippet & lurcher events at the Countryside Festival. Read another way it actually promotes the prize fund at your event albeit at the same time putting the claim made by the overall event organisers into context.

In fact the people who will benefit from the increased prize funds at Moira and the other shows are the terrier , whippet & lurcher fraternity who for too long were treated differently to the other sporting competitors at all of the fairs, ours included.

It would appear that whoever posted these rather extravagant claims doesn't subscribe to your sentiments 'I think it's important that we show support to all our shows as much we can and when we can and try and avoid this "our shows better than your show" ethos.'

I appreciate that due to certain factors the terrier & lurchers were moved outside of the Fair at Moira. You choose to promote this as a plus - and there is no doubt it may be to some people. I think differently on this matter as I feel Terrier, Lurcher and Whippets are an integral part of the country sports fraternity and should be treated equally with other sportsmen and women involved in gundogs, clays, angling etc. That is why we give them a centralised location in our fairs. But as with your programme the difference gives greater choice - I am all for more choice.

Also I did not criticise your judges - in fact I think one of them judged for us not so long ago.

In fact apart from the fact that I was making a gentle 'togue in cheek' response to the claims being made last week by the Countryside Festival team - I consider the post to be factual and in many ways non contentious.

I am sorry if you took it any other way. I do look forward to meeting you at some of the shows as you seem a genuine sportsman.

Don't think i took offence in anyway from your previous post regarding the Lurcher & Terrier events at Moira,

Although im well aware of the issue's between yourself and the organisers at Moira, i myself am only interested in

supporting the sport in general regardless the venue (after all, isn't that whats it all about)

I also look forward to meeting you at some point during the showing season.

Ian,

Thanks - I'm glad we can agree to disagree on this one. Seriously I am impressed with the range of events you have planned for Moira. We had considered several of these over the years including the high jump or scale but when we discussed it we thought it was simpler to vary the racing and the show. You have gone the other way and have given a great choice of events for people with their dogs. I applaud that. And between the two events terrier, lurcher and whippet owners have almost literally ' the best of all worlds'.

TALLY HO CHRISTMAS DOG SHOW AND RACEDAY SATURDAY 9th DECEMBER 23

At this time every year we all look forward to our Christmas Dog shows and this year was no different. Saturday morning the 9th December 23 had finally arrived and it was time to load up and head for Ballymena to the Tally Ho Christmas Dog Show and Race Day.
As we drove along the motorway, the winds and rain swept us along, and it became  evident  it was time to get the water proofs on. We were living in hope the rain and wind would subside as the day went on, but unfortunately this was not to happen.
But as the old saying goes the show must go on and that it did. In the face of adversity, howling winds and rain, show organiser Peter Morgan being the man he is and a credit to the Country Sports fraternity, battened up the hatches, hammered down the show rings, got the racing under way, and very soon the 2023 Tally Ho Christmas Dog Show had rolled on.
Tally Ho Working Dog Christmas show and Race day is widely acclaimed as being one of the top shows of the year, and again this year it certainly lived up to its name.  Although the weather was inclement and the worst I have seen in the 25 years I have been at dog shows up and down the country. But on the day, this show was not lacking in Christmas cheer.
Hunting men and women and their wee people left the field and their homes behind them to spend a day out at this great annual Christmas Sporting occasion.
This Christmas Dog Show is always a very welcome break from the busy schedules of Christmas shopping, but can also be a very sad and lonesome time, full of memories of yesteryear. This annual doggie day out lifts this mantle, brings cheer in abundance, and helps us to leave our cares behind if only for a day and that brings rewards in itself.
As usual Santa and his Elf stopped off at the Tally Ho Show to pay a visit on his way to the North Pole with lots of goodies for the children. This is always the highlight of the Christmas show. It was heart warming to hear the children singing Jingle Bells, and the happy smiles on those we faces.
Very soon it was Raffle time. The raffle always generates a lot of   excitement. Some great and valuable Christmas prizes, including a Turkey.
Time flies bye so quickly show time had arrived.

A big thank you to Matt Lee/Joanna Relf Lee /Matthew Lee for being so professional with the racing on the day. Your experience and input was invaluable, and of this the Tally Ho team are extremely grateful. Well done by all.
Finally, Finally, despite the bad weather, the craic and the banter around the rings was mighty and a brilliant atmosphere full of Christmas cheer.
None of this would have been possible without the main man at the helm, and brilliant organiser Peter Morgan and helpers Conor Creagh/another young man/ and Caitlin Hughes.
Peter put this show together all by himself and worked tirelessly and gave up his time to make this day so successful and enjoyable for everyone despite the bad weather.
Peter your show was a credit to you and you made everybody so welcome. As usual you have went over and above the call of duty with your Trophies, Rosettes and Prizes. I have heard nothing but praise of your show from everybody that came my way.
I am sure there were many sleepless nights, but again all credit goes to you Peter Morgan. Peter you carried on regardless like a true huntsman despite the terrible weather situation and carried out a very successful Dog Show and Race Day.
Stay safe Peter and may your giving hand never want. And TO all my Sporting friends, God Bless you all, and have a lovely Christmas with your families and I look forward to meeting up with you all again in 2024.
      Margaret Mc Stay
