hw80.what advantages?

Recommended Posts

As with all things air rifle, power without acuracy is worthless. The hw 80 was the first air rifle to offer a powerfull punch on a consistant level shot for shot. it was built in a way that all german engernering is, built to last and so solid it will take away the need to pamper it as most modern pcp rifles do, it can take some stick. As a hunting rifle i still think it is hard to beat because it has all that a hunter requiers from a rifle, reliability, power, accuracy. Allthough a little on the heavy side i feel it is a hard rifle to better allthough the hw95 was sold as the hw80s little brother, being the same in everyway but a little lighter has been giving the hw80 a very good run for its money.

Always a good s/h buy, as it usually withstands the muppetry of the garden shed ox spring "tuners. A better buy was the little hw 85, it wasnt made long, and like rocking horse shit these days, but all the power of its big bro.

Unless it's Venom tuned an out of the box Weihrauch 97K will out shoot an 80 any day of the week. Actually that's any day of the year. Technology moved on and while the 80 was the gun of it's day, it's been superceded by better rifles.

80's are okay but finding a decent one is serious work. Many have been dicked around with by home tuners and aren't worth the asking price. Power isn't everything and 19ft/lbs, ox-spring, 80 won't shoot nearly as well or as accurately as a stock 77 or 97. Infact you'll probably go through a few scopes as the ridiculous recoil will damage the reticules of your sights. Even a reasonably standard one will struggle to keep up with newer rifles, although as Baldie says, they can still hold their own.

If you want an 80, shop wisely. There's much better around for similar money and it alot of cases cheaper as people seriously believe that 80's are worth the money. Buy a 77K, a 97K, or a TX200. You'll account for alot more with a better rifle.
