Funny how I get messages asking what I know about you Greek Phil seems you are getting a reputation as a troll on other forums. "Just because its free" etc, well doesnt matter if it works or not does

Shouldn't that read too great.   So much for public school education.........   As I am a night shift with little to do except wait for a disaster I have read this thread and cannot believe that y

ffs how did all this shite stem from the origional post? the poor lad only asked for a bit of beating

It might be free Nick but its not particularly productive. How the personal vendetta going these days. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Matt

Get yourself along to the Fenland GF at Stowe cum Quay at the end of this month NOBS will be there. http://www.nobs.org.uk/

Alternatively give your regional chairman of the NGO a call. I'm sure Geoff will have a few contacts looking for reliable beaters. http://www.nationalgamekeepers.org.uk/

Not a personal vendetta at all Matt just object to an organisation which charges people and fails to deliver on its promises- just check some of the comments here if you do a search for "NOBS" - and which claims 9,000 members which its accounts sadly reveal to be false - minimum fee £5 -shoots paying double- times 9,000 =£45,000 - the income from ALL sources was less than £15k so something does not tally does it?

NOBS Forum claims a vast membership - checked the posts recently? I have, doesnt seem much going on there either!!

Sorry, but it does come across as a personal vendetta. It has all of the hallmarks of such. Running a web site with the sole intention of rubbishing a particular organisation has to be deem a bit of an obsessive vendetta. Perhaps we should just call it pedantic obsessiveness instead.

The world is full of organisations that charge a fee and fail to deliver. I don't believe membership number claims fall foul of any legalities. Unless you wanted to chance your arm at the trades description act. Take as an example how creative some forums are regarding their membership numbers.

But I have a somewhat disassociated view as I have never been a member of NOB's or used the services of PUB's. That the 2 exist and try to provide a service regardless of how infrequently or how poorly has to be a step in the right direction. IMO

Its just a pity that you and they are at such logger heads for what ever reason. I'm sure the likes of the NGO and SGA would be delighted of things improved. Not only in regards to interpersonal relationships but the individual organisations performances.

greekphil,if pubs doesnt work how come approx 90% of members are ex nobs members.that tells you something.when mark and scott first started nobs the idea was brillian till scott was forced out by back handed means by people who should have known better.these same people bought nobs the bad name not people who at the begining helped to finance it.

Where have I ever said PUB's didn't work. What I have said is it's not particularly productive. 2 entirely different things IMO

90% of what number though. 9000 or 20. A small dissatisfied group that was starting to implode and chew at one another was the impression I got the last time I liked in.

I have no interest in the past internal politics of NOB's or PUB's. Or their future politics for that matter. Just as I have no interest in hearsay.

Although I admit that I did find it amusing when that web site got hacked( I can't recall what its name was, but I'm sure either you or Nick can) and all the gossip was made public.

Link to post

wasnt gossip was in fact comments about me personally, stating that i was paranoid about security of pms etc., from the Admin Forum of a site and who I had warned of security. This was because I have hard copies from several ex nobs management admitting that they could, and did, read private messages, some after reassuring Forum members that they couldnt and wouldnt.

To hack into the Admin Forum far exceeded even my concerns, rather proved my point very effectively dont you feel, especially as I was subsequently informed that the hacker was someone who should have known better. Hacking is increasingly being treated with great concern by the authorities and is a criminal offence.

As far as the people who no longer are with NOBS just check who is active on their Forum these days - that is very enlightening to say the least, especially as people have to register with NOBS and pay a £5 to read most sections or post.

Sadly the real situation is serious, NOBS has lost money for the last two financial years, to the tune of £3k and are running at a deficit - that alone indicates a fall off of support, I am sad that something which offered a valuable potential resource has been wasted. I could say a lot more but wont

Hi Nick

TBH It was so long ago I have forgotten most of the details. From what I can remember everybody apart from those personally involved simply viewed it as little more than a storm in a tea cup. You have to admire the audacity of the guy who did it though. As he certainly achieved his objective. what I found the most amusing was he simply used known personal information to access the necessary element of the said sites admin files. Talk about leaving the door wide open!

I'm sure NOB's will survive one way or another. A bit of reorganisation, and restructuring, and some corporate sponsorship perhaps. Who knows.

Que Sera Sera ...

Re. the comments on NOBS. I was a member for over two years and didn't get a single days beating out of them - not even on mid-week shoots when numbers of available beaters may be less. Rumour I heard was that most of the beating was kept for a select few....which could explain the drop in membership. My advice to anybody looking for beating would be to ring around local shoot captains/gamekeepers and offer your service. Keep your money for a beer afterwards!

Greek phil you seem to have more information about what happened than me, so i do really wonder who you really are, and dont forget hacking is a criminal offence. I do have hard copies of all the posts anyway, quite a folder building up.

Now if NOBS tries to obtain corporate sponsorship by quoting false paid up membership figures, or sells advertising on the same basis, I do wonder if that is legal too?

Restructuring is happening now as many of the Regional Officers have jacked it in anyway- one saying they were fed up with dealing with complaints.

Reorganisation is happening too, Company Secretary has resigned as have all but two orginal directors, current CEO and a new Director from Scotland.

Black and Green - I dont think that any favouritism has ever been shown, but it is a common rumour, I just think a data based system is so unwieldy and inefficient and also needs regular updating and someone to search it 24/7 for vacancies, that it means few beaters can be linked with shoots in the time scale required.

Spending £19k on hardware and software over the years does seem to be a waste .

For anyone so inclined NOBS accounts are available on getitorfyerchest.myfreeforum.org

Better informed, Nah! Just less interested. There's hacking and there's hacking, as with all offences. Why bother keeping hard copies of such trifles if your not obsessing over some minor slight.

I'm sure any corporate sponsor and advertiser worth their salt will ensure that they do their due diligences. Before committing to any expenditure. If they don't they only have themselves to blame. Web sites are notorious for "massaging" membership figures. Whether they feel its advantageous to them in their pursuit of advertisers I don't really know or care.

Unless you were at the table when the decisions were taken to invest in their ITC systems and why, makes any comment on your part simply speculation and supposition.

Glad to see you haven't step down from the soap box . But it's best stick to the know facts

Link to post

sadly matt, no one paying fees had any say in the decision making and still havent FYI I have referred the expenditure to some IT Specialists of my acquaintance who were dumbfounded at the sums expended, even for designer programs they considered the expenditure more than excessive and not best value.

facts are facts as stated in the company's accounts.

      Hello

My name is Paul, i am 20 years old and i am from Grimsby in Lincolnshire.

I have recently had an interview for a Gamekeeping Apprenticeship at Bishop Burton college in Yorkshire and I have been offered a place so long as i can find employment but being in the north east Lincolnshire area Gamekeepers seem to be few and far between, i have contacted the major local estate (brocklesby estate which is owned by the Earl of Yarborough) and some smaller estates ran by farmers and the only replies i seem to be getting are "we aren't looking to employ anyone else" which is fair enough but also rather disappointing but hey, what can you do.

I am posting here to see if there are any people out there that may know someone that could take me on or actually take me on themselves in or around the Grimsby area?(30 mile radius)

      I have experience in:

      - organised shoots as I was a beater at my local shoot (no gamekeeper, it is ran by volunteers)

      - pest control as I often shoot pigeons and rabbits for the local farmer.

      - Handling rifles and shotguns

I can drive so transport is no problem. I am looking to work within a 25-30 mile radius of Grimsby.

The employer has a possibility of gaining a £1500 grant if they take me on which is provided by the college (the government have the final say however as it goes through them + Terms and conditions apply)

I am willing to do trial runs

I can do voluntary work to gain experience.

If there is anyone out there that will be able to help me it would be more than appreciated.

If anyone has any offers or information then please contact me via my email - Pldiplock@gmail.com

Silky and I have moved from Wiltshire to Woodbridge Suffolk and are now getting itchy feet.

She is now ten and so not quite as fast as her master (who is only 70).

Before we left, I created a book (using Blurb.co.uk and snaps by shoot members) of the shoot for members and the regulars in the Calley Arms (between Marlborough and Swindon) where the country brigade can be found (especially on a Friday evening).

If you have a place, Please let me know.

      Hi All

We are now entering our third season in NI and we are always on the look out for reliable guys and girls to assist us with the dogging-in duties at the shoot.

Does anyone else have any tips on how to build a reliable and consistent team to help with the beating line and dogging-in?

Likewise any one who would be interested in speaking to us about some dog work should pm me or contact us via email.

      Thanks

      BWS

Payment is in kind in form of beaters day, good camaraderie and lunch on shoot days

      Hi there,

I am in the process of applying for my shotgun and firearms certificates and have a few air rifles but have been around the sport and lifestyle my entire life, and I'm keen to get involved further, so I'm offering my services for free help with beating, gamekeeping, pest control etc.

I don't have much experience at the moment but I pick things up quickly and enjoy learning about all aspects of the outdoors lifestyle. I'm a 24 year old economics student with a lot of free time, both weekdays and weekends and I live in Morpeth, Northumberland so if there's anyone relatively near requiring any help, get in touch here and I'd be happy to lend a hand, I'm not scared of a days hard work and I don't mind getting my hands dirty either

      Cheers,

      John.

As we are all to aware the season is almost here, and in some places has already started.

Due to the shoot I worked on closing down at the end of last year, I am looking for a new shoot to work.

I have been beating and picking up for the last 3 years and have an English Springer and a Cocker Spaniel who both work well.

Ideally I would like to find a small friendly shoot in the East Sussex area who shoot at the weekends.

If anybody can help I would be very grateful for a PM.
