westmeade hawk x farloe ring

Recommended Posts

ringo the brood who was mated to westmead hawk 3 and half weeks ago looked a little of colour sat morning(yesterday and was off her food)she was took strait to the vets. the diognosis a womb infection. she was given two injections and a course of antibiotics, the vet said the next 3 days are crucile. worst case scenario which i dont want to think about is a hysterectomy to say im gutted is an understatment. hopefully the infection was caught and treated in time and everything will be fine. what i cant understand she was wormed and given a course of synulux as soon as she broke before mateing, because of this the vet said if it was a natural mateing(which it was) the chances are she caught the infection from the stud. if this is the case it pains me that a small time breeder as myself can do everything by the book as it should be done to prevent these things happening but the men at the top end of the scale the proffesionals cant seem to get it right and these guys are earning good money. you would think all studs , definatley the big names would be checked and treated regulary as any bitch the stud mates could be potentialy a carrier of infection if its owners havent cleaned it out prior to mateing. when she came back home after mateing she was teeming with fleas but these could have been picked up off any one of the dogs on the transporter. to say il be praying hard , loud and long for the forseable future rings true.

Hope it all goes right for you mate

that is one of the reasons I asked if she was being mated naturally as a lot of the big breeders will now only use AI to protect their studs and broods from any infection risk

Good luck and hope it turns out right for you ;)

hope this is going to end well, ie back to vets today infection is clearing but more antibiotics till the end of the week. she is back on her food and back to her normal self so fingers crossed. as a precaution the vet scanned her but could see nothing but this dont worry me as she is ok in herself and at 4 weeks i wouldnt really expect a scan to show anything.

they can usually tell from a scan at 3 weeks, glad she's o.k tho,you should tell the people who have the hawk so as it doesnt happen to anyone else

yeah from my experience scans are very unreliable, i like to let nature take its course to see if a bitch is in pup, the reason the vet said he scanned her was to see how severe the infection was as this was presumably showing up on the scan, while he was doing this he had a look for the pups but couldnt see any. i really do hope she is in pup, i just hope the stud passing on an infection dosent intefere in her conceiving or even forceing the bitch to abort in some way at an early stage due to infection. the main thing is the bitch is recovering and was given vetenary treatment asap . im home from asia soon so as soon as i am home i will phone the vet for his opinions then i will be contacting the dunphys to let them know what has happend so they can sort things out with the hawk from their end. hopefully everything will pan out ok and end well.
