this is something that ive recently become interested in, has anyone tried black chicken? is there any restaurants in the uk or ireland that serve it? ive heard its popular in asian cuisine.

ill be honest with you pal, iv never heard of a black chicken :icon_eek: , but id give it a try!

Mmm, very tasty.

 

Black chicken is actually a Silkie bantam, and it's the skin that's only black. Usually given as a medicine meal/drug.

 

silkies come in large as well as bantam, they arent the only black skinned/black meat breed.... theres an indonesian breed called

ayam cemani but they are very rare and highly sought after, im after a pair of them myself... problem is they command prices of 100 plus each :(

Yes, in most asian cuisine's they will plate you a silkie bird, large/bantam strain.

I never fancied it when I had a few silkies, couldn't stand the thought of it for some reason. I am sure it would taste the same, but not for me I am afraid. The bones of silkies are also supposed to be green, and as arctic said, are used in medicine.
