gapes in partridge and pheasant

Recommended Posts

Just a query to see if anyone has used panacur as a worming treatment mixed in wheat or barley when feeding gamebirds?

I have heard it can be mixed using cooking oil as a binding agent.

Has anybody used this method of treatment?

If so which form of panacur do you use and how do you mix it, ratios etc?

Flubenvet is what you want mate

you will need a cement mixer 4l of oil and 1l of panacur 10% and I use 1 1/2 ton of wheat.

If you hopper feed it isn't as good cause it can go clumpy and can start to go mouldy if it is not eaten straight away.remember the withdrawal period (7 days).

If you have a dry period it is as easy to put the panacur in their water here the ground is very free draining and at the moment the birds are taking water from the drinkers in large amounts.

Also panacur is not licensed as a poultry wormer

Good luck getting flubenvet in pellet now and if you want to give your birds the shites as well as having gapes then change from wheat to pellet then back again also from a cost point of view a ton of wheat and some panacur will be a sight cheaper.

before you change to wheat is the time to use flubenvet.

Gapes shouldn't be too much of a problem this time of year as the birds should be strong enough to stand a few and the cold weather (when it gets here) will sort them out anyway.

Yes, chickens can get gapes too.

I use panacure 4% powder at 2 grams per kilo of food, mixed in with a bit of vegetable oil for one day. The beauty with panacur is that it is very dificult to overdose.

This dose rate is an educated guess but it's done the trick for me. As for worming this time of year though, unless you have a major problem I wouldn't worry too much.
