Tommy Sheridan MSP has tabled a draft proposal for a Private Member's Bill in Scotland to ban the private ownership of airguns north of the border and issued a consultation paper. This proposal has been tabled too late for a Bill to be passed before the end of this session but we're expecting it to come back in the summer. BASC is organising opposition in Scotland and I have written to the Home Office to seek an assurance that Westminster will not pass the necessary procedural motion to allow the Scots to do this. Firearms legislation is normally reserved to the UK parliament.

 

I would urge all Scottish members of the forum to respond to the consultation. You can find the details here:

Point out that this is as ludicrous as seeking to ban private ownership of cars to stop motoring offences and that the overwhelming majority of airguns are used legally, responsibly and safely.

 

Airgun users need to be active on this to nip it in the bud.
