I have had no problems whacking down a pheasant or two with my FAC Wiehrauch HW80.22. I've often shot at their backs across the spread of the wing shoulders at the centre, if head shots are a problem to get a clear bead on. This puts a round through the heart and lungs and kills them very fast. In nearly every case the bird gives a very clear, sharp gasp of breath as it drops. As if the shot empties it of breath in a flash. It will kick and flap a bit, but it's dead very quickly. I've also had equally humane kills on pheasants with my sub 12ft/lb TX200 .22 rifle in the same spot. The head is always the first point to aim at though, if you are inexperienced at shooting this kind of bird. As for Hares, I treat them as I would a rabbit and it's a clear headshot or let it go. I once shot at one with my TX200 from under 30 yards range and it moved forward, just as I let the shot go, hitting it broadside in the upper shoulder. It got away, yelping pitifully in stumbling, falling bounds and out of reach. I absolutely detested myself for not shooting it quick and clean. I really felt so sorry for that poor hare. Never forgotten that. So for me, it's a headshot or no-shot

I was dead gutted that i cant shoot where i take my dog, saw a pheasant just sittin there . could have had that for dinner . i did let the dog have a go ,she did her best but she cant fly lol

dodgy bloke my that fine upstanding fella sold me a quality rifle, now if i could get a chance to shoot the damn thing i'd be proper happy... been out once in the last month,and got a rabbit at 45m( i wouldnt have with the r10!) and got a pheasant, ironically enough when doing a spot of knockdown target practice, as the rifle was in my shoulder it seemed a shame to waste the pellet on a metal crow. photo to come thanks to tony's kindness

I shoot phesents every season with my air rifle and never had a prob but like has been said it has to be a head shot the pheasents arnt going to know whats hit them this season with me owning a proper air rifle know lol

I love the dark side I am just practicing my shot placment on hobbits know so fellowship beware
