what cartridge should i use for ducks

Recommended Posts

just use 1 ounce loads 7 1/2 size and they are good to 100 yds

You must have short yards

Here I don't know if its the same there but when we changed we had to used 2 shot sizes bigger in steel than we did with lead so if you used a 4 in lead you would use a 2 in steel. This is because steel is much lighter than lead so having the larger pellet compensates for less density. This and the fact that steel wont deform in your barrel the same as lead does will mean you will have a much tighter pattern with little or few fliers, evin with a more open choke.

This is why many guns are chambered for 3" as standard and the 3.5" super magnum was developed, to try get more pellets out into the air its also worth remembering that the average shot load will be doing more like 1550 with steel rather than the slower 1200 with the average lead load, but will slow down sooner as well.
