Not advisable however as you'll be under the watchful eye of the WWT tower and that entire area is designated as an SPA therefore your cheeks might well be getting hauled off to sit on a jail bed for disturbing the barnacles.....

Sorry mate but thats just not true at all as I shoot that area quite a bit, its also on the day ticket of solway wildfowlers. You cannot cross powhillon farm to reach the marsh but you can take a long tricky walk up the tide there. I would just like to know from other people who shoot there how far i can 'push it'.

But people who know dont like to share the info and attract others it would seem.

And there is no law againstdisturbing barnacles.

You could cross Powhillon if you get the current tenant farmers permission. Problem is once you get out to Powhillon's merse you are in an SPA/SAC that was designated for Barnacle geese and if you disturb them the WWT can and have done in the past, prosecuted those caught shooting.

SPA designation: http://www.jncc.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=1980

The whole secrecy thing around that part of the Solway is because the BASC and Solway Wildfowlers Association have an agreement with WWT to restrict and not promote wildfowling in the area.

SWA and BASC agreement: http://www.powhillonfarm.co.uk/shootingtrl/Reasons_WWT_Extns.swf

How do we know - because we farmed Powhillon and have fought the WWT and the nature reserve for the last 30 plus years. Your question DIDO.1 was how far can you push it and all we're saying is there are consequences if you get within viewing distance of the tower.

Don't believe us then push right up the foreshore to Powhillon (which is permitted), sit under the tower and take your chances. One last thing, bring down a couple of those Barnacle geese for us while you are there and enjoy because it is an amazing wildfowling spot!

no you will find it use to be an amazing wildfowling spot, you tell me why nothing is done then on the 1st of sept this year it was 30 guns lined out infront of tower shooting at geese out of range leaving wounded birds out on sand. nothing is done. and the shooting on there will eventually be stopped if all these cowboys come up and shoot our marsh to bits on the 1st every year.
