how do i train a ferret to work

Recommended Posts

You don't need to 'train' a fert to work, per se...............it's a natural instinct that they all inherently have (to varying degrees) Can you 'train' a cat to catch mice? ;)

Treat the first few outings as a learning exercise for both you and the ferts. If they faff around at the bury entrances & mess up the nets, just let them get on with it & their curiosity will do the rest. You can soon sort out a net. It's really not rocket science (despite what some here would have you think) 'Ferreting' is easy..............being 'experienced' at it just takes a wee bit time, but it'll come! Meanwhile, don't get caught up in all the bullshit, just get out & enjoy yourself! You'll soon get the idea

Ferret master....

I know you from somewhere ;)

So do I, he's a troll that caused a argument on another forum by taking a picture off another site and claiming to own the bull cross in the picture but saying it was a whippet x spaniel/lab :wallbash: :wallbash: He was also on about putting 4 ferrets to ground and hearing them squeal and when he went back to the set they were at the top of the hole dead

My advice is to find somebody local to take you out and show the ropes, its much better to share a day out with someone, that can help and encourage you. It will prevent long term problems occurring due to lack of experience..

I am sure if you ask nicely on here, someone local to you would take you out.

Good advice mate go with somebody local see how they do it helps on hand if you need it and you can see what gear they have and what you will need .

I found that the first 4 to 5 outings were purely training, they would rather just tangle the nets, but after a while the curiosity drove them down the hole and everything progressed. As mentioned before you dont train them its inprinted it`s more on our part that needs training :tongue2: No but in all seriousness they will come on well just patience boy, thats all you need. I used to work albino hobs as a kid, after a couple of years just got back with the ferts and glad to be back.
