dai dog 11 Posted July 24, 2006 Report Share Posted July 24, 2006 im not really a reading man myself, but i do try and learn more and more about what i love! in order to hopefully pic up some some tips and become a more proficient hunter! many books ive baught and read, are written by one person, thus giving one persons perspective! i dont claim to be super hunter, ive actually only been doggin a couple of years! (the hunting sort, not the car park sort!) but i find that these books seem to be written in a rush to get them on the shelves, you even wonder if the experiences shared in these books are actually those of the author? however my mates missus baught him dig deep, throw well back as a present, he claimed that he couldnt put it down! in fact he finished the publication in three days! like my self hes not a book man. after he turned the last page it was in my landie heading home! like him i finished the bugger in three days! my eyes used to get tired, but five minutes later i just had to pick it up again! that was about a year ago now and sinse then ive baught and read dig deep, extreme lurcherwork and running dog addiction! the latter being my favourite,(only by a gnats cock though!) these books have imparcial views, and have different chapters by different people, each of which give a different slant on our game! there are quite a few pics of dogs all of which are crackers and in great condition! now i know j d is on this site, and with out sounding too much like a brown nose, id like to say cheers for these books j d, and wonder if he is planning to bring out another? if any of you guys have read these books, post youre oppinions. the other advantage of reading is that people think that youre brainy!!! :11: Quote Link to post Share on other sites

wingnut 27 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Share Posted July 28, 2006 i couldn't put the dig deep throw well back book down either read it in few days too it took me ages to get it was after it for ages it was sold out everywhere then by chance i found it at terrier and lurcher and hound show in wales it was the last one left, it got loads of cracking pictures and great stories. David Harcombe does some cracking books to i got most his books the 'World of the Working terrier' is a good read. pointer28 1 Posted July 29, 2006 Report Share Posted July 29, 2006 I've read Dig Deep, Throw Well Back and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Read it in one day. Still love picking it up and reading single chapters now and again, strongly recommend it to anyone. The World of the Working Terrier by David Harcombe is another MUST HAVE for anyone interested in terriers, great stuff, well worth the money. Neither of these are instruction books written by so called experts. They are more a collection of stories written by two men about the sport that they so obviously love. I haven't read The Midleton Strain and I never will. I have read some more by the same author and they were brutal, I would rather castrate myself with a rusty blade and no anaesthetic than read another. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

As for "How to", you're probably better off just posting any questions you have on here and getting advice from numerous different people, rather than buying a book and just getting one persons opinion. Saying that, I love buying all the dog books and I learn a little bit from all of them, just don't fall into the trap of buying one book and treating it as Gospel.
