ghillies 209 Posted May 19, 2009 Report Share Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) it's no problem there... every gun is different as they say lol. the basic format on pellet weights is the lighter the faster, the heavier the slower so they drop loads quicker. in general...the lighter the less penatration but it depends on the velosity, as in fac stuff verses 12fp's...i'm dealing with 12fp stuff. (the energies 'foot pounds' is a maths thing,) basicaly if you up the wieght a number in the equation changes basicaly meaning the maxing answer is 12 foot pounds, so if the weight number gets bigger the velosity has to reduce to = less than 12fp's. so the same 'energy' but eather going faster or slower with a caliber difference in size. but, in general the heavier the pellet the more wack\penatration.(for the same caliber...) to test how the pellets are reacting in a barrel it' nice to get a chrono string to see what the shot to shot varience is, 5fps is a good varience, 2 is exselent lol.. the better the consistancy the tighter your group is (and weighing/sizing pellets adds a bit more acuracy again...). in my pcp 10.5 grain pellets are spot on...some 8.5 grain are pritty good but the shot to shot varience increases. acupels were leathal hitting stuff as hard as the 10.5 grain pellets but then every so many shots they clogged and the group spread.. but in genral through a broad spectrum of pellets the pcp liked the heavier pellets.. springrs i havent played with in a couple or more years...but my mates on a springer and his likes the lighter pellets...but, as already shown with the pcp..it's not a be all answer lol. side issues with the shot to shot consistacy are it'll only show up on bad/mis matched pellets or at distance, e.g. jsb heavies hold on target to 82 yards...another similar brand only holds on target to 60 yards and spreads..thats the make/mis match/whatever reason..they aint as good in my barrel/gun set up. but at 30 yards they all hit 1 inch group so 'work'... not forgetting 'gun tunes' a gun smith can do tomatch to a specific pellet etc...and 'other barrels' mods and upgrades. it's try and see... final edit ....ok i've finished editing...cant spell wont spell lolol...
